The truck was parked in full sun the entire time (we were on an exposed granite slab with no shade). It took nearly an entire day to reach refrigeration temperatures, and even then it stopped and maintained temperatures a full 3°F warmer than we'd programmed it to. Ive had this exact Fridge for 2 years now in pretty harsh offroad conditions in the back of my truck on a slide under a bed cover and its worked every time and kept my food cold. In the main compartment, two circular indents in the bottom of the cooler initially seem like they might be a great addition for fitting taller bottles, such as 2L of soda or wine. We took the furthest in of the RIGHT side of the "fork tooth" camp site spot, which was right at the trailhead bridge. I kept a blanket on top top the fridge just to give it a little extra insulation to stave off the heat in the truck.When it comes to noise, the Alplicool is about average while running, but after its cooling cycle ends, it continues to make gurgling and whooshing noises for some time.
LOL I have 4 young kids now so these days we go camping in the camper that I built with 300w of solar power, 100ah lithium battery to power all the lights/laptops/fridge, and we have a hot shower system for outdoor showers. I measured actual temps in the fridge with a good freezer thermometer located dead center of the volume.This 45L cooler is a fairly small, compact overall package, making it easier for one person to pick up. The fridge's app is not terrible, not great, but I found the app display would freeze up at times (har har) and needed to be unpaired and then re-paired to the fridge. A longer DC cord gives you 7 feet and 10 inches of space to place your unit in your vehicle, while an AC cord (which plugs into the same space as the DC cord) offers 6 feet 8 inches.
We don't love its temperature control and find some of its usability "features" to be more of a nuisance than a help. The display itself goes to sleep after a minute or so and only comes on if you press one of the power buttons (AC, DC, or light). Unfortunately, when it comes to reliable temperature control, the Alpicool isn't particularly impressive and is the worst of all the compressor models we tested.
This year we're doing a 1 week trip to Big Sur in California, then another 1 week trip to Grand Canyon, then another 1 week trip to Yosemite, then another 1 week trip to Joshua Tree, then another week in Redwood National Park. SO needs vary, and level of convenience that can take out the camping part of enjoying the outdoors, can also creep in easily. Curious to know if anyone is running any new fridge/freezer options in their rigs other than the big names such as ARB, Dometic, and Engel?

The Alpicool CF45 is immediately notable for its relatively low cost compared to other compressor model coolers. F. This may also be helped by its particularly tall, narrow shape and lower overall surface area, giving it less space from which to take on heat.I bought the standard Chinese compressor and it’s been running almost 3 years now on over 20 trips in the back of my bed wheeling and camping and still running strong. The fact that the one thing this powered cooler is meant to do for sure isn't something we feel particularly confident we can trust it to do on a summer backcountry adventure, isn't exactly a ringing endorsement.
