About this deal

I feel like saying anything negative about this book would make me a jerk, so if you're looking for a book with a positive message that has some decent baking recipes, you may enjoy this one. I made my own sourdough starter and made a loaf that tasted better than any bread I had previously eaten.

Along the way Kitty got better, a Corgi got involved and Al realised that he was now a baker not a teacher.Kitty is a strong woman with a wonderfully supportive family who not only allow her to recover in her own way without worrying about her schooling but help her every step of the way. After following the Orange Bakery on Instagram I was very excited about the book coming out and it does not disappoint. This is an amazing book, not only full of recipes, but wonderfully illustrated and has a genuine narrative about their journey into breadmaking. the ultimatebrown butter and choc chip cookies with the perfect combination of gooey centre and crispy edges. And while Orange Bakery became a huge success, it was definitely a gamble for her parents to put so much time and money into something like that.

If you had told me at 14 when I couldn't even get out of bed with depression and anxiety that three years later I would have written a book I would never have believed you. Al asked Kitty if she'd like to try baking bread herself, and their lives were never the same again.Tenacity and passion permeate Breadsong , a moving, life-affirming memoir and recipe book by Kitty and Al Tait that celebrates the joys of bread-based baking . Their story brought tears to my eyes at times and also swellings of joy for how Kitty is finding her way in this life with her family and actual village and sourdough starters by her side. It's got enough context of other things going on that you know bread isn't absolutely everything, but it's also very clear that the focus is the story of Kitty not being able to go to school ---> opening the bakery; it's not a complete autobiography.

Breadsong is a beautifully soul-stirring book about overcoming personal anxieties and depression through the nurturing joys of baking. Her parents focused almost 100% on trying to help Kitty (which is understandable), but also let Kitty take over the whole kitchen. Breadsong tells the story of Kitty Tait who was a chatty, bouncy and full-of-life 14 year old until she was overwhelmed by an ever-thickening cloud of depression and anxiety and she withdrew from the world. The book jumps between Kitty and her dad's perspectives and is all the better for it - it's great seeing both of them reflected equally in the final thing. It was so enjoyable, I loved every minute, it was so interesting and despite my preconceptions (thought they must have had a bit of money to start something like this) I was completely wrong and it was completely inspirational how this happened.
