Cosmos is a pollinator's favorite, and often we see bees and beneficial insects settle on the golden pollen centers, taking their nourishment as the flowers wave in the summer breezes.
Stake and tie cosmos plants if necessary during the growing season, water regularly and dead-head to prolong the flowering season. When you are selecting the right spot, keep in mind that this cosmos easily becomes 100 centimeters tall! Sow Cosmos seed from March to May at a depth of 3mm (1/8") in a good quality seed compost, and cover the seeds with a very fine sprinkling of vermiculite. When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into 7cm (3") pots and grow them on in cooler conditions until large enough to plant outdoors. We reserve the right to contact you and advise an additional charge where necessary and are happy to quote for carriage of specific products to more remote areas.Fairly pest-free and low maintenance, add this charming plant to the landscape, and you will be rewarded with abundant butterflies. The newest (and to me the loveliest) of the new breedings of cosmos trialled in the garden here – soft, ethereal and quiet.
While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. The dovetailed, peachy outer petals draw your eyes inward, past a ring of mauve and into the yellow center–you can imagine how this beauty seduces native pollinators with ease! Sow cosmos seed from February to May at a depth of 3mm (1/8in) in a good quality seed compost, and cover the seeds with a very fine sprinkling of vermiculite.
It’ll encourage these beauties to grow nice and bushy, ensuring a breathtaking display of vibrant flowers. You can directly sow seeds once the soil has warmed up, but plants will flower relatively late in summer.
