What a gift to be able to express love, admiration, and loathing for other people through poetry like this! It’s a randy cuppie named Blaze who tweaks their cop instincts thatsomething’s not quite right on the waterfront—and it’sBlaze who sets off a bizarre criminal trail that wouldbe hilarious if it didn’t wind up just as nasty asit gets, with a pair of murders right on the eve of thebiggest sailing race of all.As a person who remembers well that America's cup (being a kiwi) it was interesting reading a novel set in San Diego at that time. Unless you are deeply interested in sailing, in particular in America Cup sailing, this novel will likely be more than you ever wanted to know about these topics, dressed up as a police procedural. Indeed, Blaze will soon lead Detective Anne Zorn and Mick Fortney along a bizarre criminal trail that would behilarious if it didn't wind up just as nasty as it gets, with a pair of murders right on the eve of the biggest sailing race of all.

The plot does have a nice twist at the end, but it wasn't worth the trouble of getting there, at least for me. At the end of the volume, there are extensive notes that provide background on themes of some poems, as well as the inspiration for various poems. Perhaps I am too-biased in coming into poetry and art with the idea that it will provide an aesthetic experience, which in a way can't be too-much based on what we perceive to be reality.
