About this deal

One slightly controversial aspect about the keyboard itself is that the switches still sit directly atop the plate with the GMMK 2. Although I don’t use RGB lighting anymore, I do hold a soft spot in my heart for it after so many years in a dark office when I worked in IT. In addition to its hot-swappable PCB, it also comes with screw-in stabilizers, so you can easily replace those. You can also change the look of the keyboard by replacing keycaps with different styles from Glorious and other third-party manufacturers. This profile creates a nearly flat top, with the keys all pretty much level yet sporting a cylindrical bow to meet the curve of your fingers.

We expect the results to remain consistent across colorways and size variants, though the keystrokes and typing experience will feel different with other switches installed. I took a lot of issue with the GMMK Pro’s Glorious Goat stabs being pre-lubed, feeling that they were over-lubed.

I am personally not a fan of plate stabs due to inconsistency so I’ll prioritize swapping to screw-in stabs for the next round. But out of an ocean of options for 65% entry custom keyboards — Why would I choose the GMMK 2 ahead of the rest? Performance-wise, the Ducky has lower latency, but the GLORIOUS comes with companion software so you can program macros and customize the RGB backlighting. Arranged in a UK ISO layout, there are 68 keys on the TKL model and they use the standard OEM profile. I am pretty picky about my cables and tend to be “a little 2018” here but I prefer my cables not coiled but with an aviator.

The GMMK 2 is a welcomed refresh and stands as a nice contender for those who feel intimidated by modding, still want to get into the hobby, and stay under budget. There's plenty of room inside for good airflow around components therefore I haven't felt the need to add to the two included case fans as the case design allows for good passive airflow. We purchased the pre-assembled, full-size unit in black, which comes with linear GLORIOUS Fox switches.I really wanted to give the Glorious Fox switches a decent go, so instead of swapping out the switches right away for some of my go-to choices, I decided to lube the Fox switches with some Krytox 205g0. Inside the board, there's sound-dampening foam to help reduce higher-pitched pings and rattles from stabilizers or switches. Glorious have successfully married enthusiast-level features (lubed stabilizers and switches, case foam, …) with this slightly more budget-oriented keyboard and it’s a marriage that works if you ask me.

I feel if I bring another board like the C3Equalz Portico in particular, I would worry about breakage of the USB-C port, or having to open up the case and needing to have a screwdriver with me. The HyperX Alloy Origins 65 and the GLORIOUS GMMK 2 are mechanical gaming keyboards, but the HyperX performs better for this use. Once upon a time Glorious released a Model O in Pink, which I picked up (of course I did as I collect other “cute coloured” mice such as the Logitech G203 in Lilac and White, Razer Viper in Quartz, and the Model O in Pink and White)… As soon as I saw that the GMMK 2 was available in Pink, I had to compare it to the Model O. For even more customization, you can replace the included clip-on stabilizers with PCB-mounted alternatives such as GSV2.It does take a bit of time to really break them in (there can be some inconsistencies between the feeling of different switches at first) but once you’re past that they really feel quite great. Not ideal but I think typing on a conventional layout is good for me since my 40s mapping requires some wild muscle memory changes.

The RGB diffuser strips on the sides only help with that feeling: they make the keyboard look a bit more premium and of course add to the RGB show. The RGB backlighting shines through each key individually, so the key legends are easy to see in the dark. GMMK 2 is a versatile and adaptable mechanical keyboard that allows you to replace, among other things, the switches to suit your needs. You can also create, import, and export your own macros, further enhancing the keyboard's functionality. A versatile, long-lasting keyboard that gives you control over every detail and can be considered in the same league as the Apex Pro is nothing to balk at.

As such, this keyboard can be customised with a blend of switches to meet your needs and feedback preferences.
