About this deal

I've known most of the things that went on, during the Holocaust, for many years, and it still upsets me to read about it. And I suppose that is the highest compliment you can give to an author, to let them know that their book was not only a great read but also one that provoked discussions. Lena and Karolina struggled to live through the atrocity of the Holocaust, and at the same time harbored a courageous, yet mysterious secret of maternity that has troubled Lena throughout her adult life. If you have read many novels of the Holocaust, you might pass on this one, if you have not it is a rare "uplifting" story of bravery and luck by a survivor. If you are the publisher or author and feel that they do not properly reflect the range of media opinion now available, send us a message with the mainstream reviews that you would like to see added.

Lena Woodward’s] survivor account becomes the main source of suspense, since she is reluctant to reveal the full horror of what she experienced until the end…and [it] does not disappoint. The writing itself is immaculate, the story gripping, with impeccable characterisation and believable, realistic dialogue. His practice has taken him to several international venues, including villages in Poland that inspired his first novel, Once We Were Brothers. Lena Woodward, a holocaust survivor asks Catherine and Liam Taggart to help her find two twins that her best friend lost during the war.

The living space, meanwhile, has a dining table and chairs, plus French doors that open out onto the terrace. Karolina's Twins is involving right from the start, it reads quickly, and fans of historical fiction are sure to enjoy it. This book was based partly on a real life survivor of the holocaust who told her tale to the author.

How cruelly the Jews of Europe were treated during WW 2 and this story, based on true facts, shows their resilience, their bravery and how some of them survived. Attorney Catherine Taggart and her husband Liam are drawn into a World War II mystery when Lena Scheinman, a woman in her late 80’s and a Jewish Polish survivor of the Holocaust shows up on their doorstep asking for help in finding the twins of Lena’s deceased best friend, Karolina. While Lena is sharing her story with Catherine, we learn about Lena’s life story which details surviving Nazi occupied Poland before, during and after WWII.

A story of love and sacrifice, bonds between women, mothers and children, all worthy messages, all conveyed within. The demands of his trial practice have taken him into courts across the United States and into international venues. Most of the book is taken up with Lena's story, and I found it to be by far the most engaging part of the book. She stood straight and poised, smartly dressed in a gray two-piece suit, a silk designer scarf and a pearl lattice barrette, which was clipped neatly to the right side of her styled silver hair.

Throughout Poland, young women were seized off the streets and forced to be prostitutes or sex slaves. Although the book is a work of fiction, the story is inspired by the life of a Holocaust survivor, Fay Scharf Waldman. Re-telling your nightmare of living in occupied Poland during WWII would stir up emotions that I would want to forget, but Lena Scheinman Woodward wanted it told.

He was an adjunct professor of business law at the University of Chicago, Graduate School of Business for twenty-five years and was a frequent lecturer in the federal bar certification course and in trial advocacy seminars. Extensive travels to Israel and the Middle East provided the inspiration for Saving Sophie, his second novel.

Arthur begins a legal battle against his mother questioning her mental status and control of her estate. The later parts of the story seemed to be almost written by a different author and turn into a poorly written novel . Just when you think there could not be anything new to ferret out from World War II comes a spellbinding new novel by the bestselling author of Once We Were Brothers and Saving Sophie. If you do receive an ATOL Certificate but all the parts of your trip are not listed on it, those parts will not be ATOL protected. Lena sits down over multiple sessions with Catherine to tell her story of how it came to pass that these two newborn baby girls were thrown out of a moving Nazi transport train in 1943 by desperate women headed to a concentration camp. With every novel of his, I have been hooked immediately and eager to finish, although a feeling of bereft lingers once I have finished.
