About this deal

While a question mark symbol on a die is a wild (the player can make it any coat of arms they wish), they don’t get to fill in a square for that wild coat of arms in the Spellbook. Or you may get the icons you need but none of them ever turn up with crosses, meaning you end the game with a huge domain that scores you nothing. If there are crosses on the die, fill in the circles on the space with the appropriate number of crosses.

There are enough strategy options here to keep me coming back for more and more plays and due to the unpredictable nature of the dice, each game will feel slightly different and I’ll need to adjust my game to match. Each player in Kingdomino: Duel starts off with an identical kingdom sheet, with the spell book sheet placed between them.

Tiles must either touch the central castle, or touch orthogonally a matching symbol on the players map. Kingdomino Duel is a dedicated two-player game based on the bigger box tile laying games, Kingdomino and Queendomino. The pencils are fully functional but you will inevitably need a sharpener at some point, that is not included. We reserve the right to substitute one mail service for another if it is equivalent and will result in the games being delivered faster than by Royal Mail.

If you’re looking for a great two player game that is enjoyable to play with just about anyone, this could be the one! Kingdomino Duel doesn't shy away from its roots, in fact you could argue that this is the next tactical step up from the base game, as it hits you quicker in the thinking space than its siblings. Most of which are simply because, IMO, Duel suffers greatly when compared to the original Kingdomino. Even if you get a dice roll that’s only going to give you minimal points due to the lack of “Xs” rolled, you still get to make progress in the spellbook, which works as a nice consolation prize. The special abilities exist to give you a way to break the rules and to slightly mitigate the luck inherent in dice rolling.

If you liken the Kingdomino series to the Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Duel would be too little, Queendomino would be too much, and the original Kingdomino would be juuust right. A lot of this game is figuring out when it’s best to focus on your needs and when it’s best to dump on your opponent. We do this using a variety of digital marketing networks and exchanges, advertising technologies like web beacons, pixels and cookies, in addition to technology offered by third parties such as Facebook pixel's custom audience feature. As the means by which you can refuse cookies through your web browser controls vary from browser-to-browser, you should visit your browser's help menu for more information.

This game took the ages-old dominoes mechanic and created an engaging family title that has already seen its fair share of expansions and spinoffs. I think that’s pretty similar to Kingdomino, though; if you have 7 Territories with one crown each, that’s only 7 points. Calculate your score by doing a similar thing to Kingdomino — essentially, count each contiguous group of tiles (a “territory”), and then multiply its size by the number of crosses it has to get its value. It’s rare to see people get totally shut out on this; once my space is at least 7 or 8 spots, I just go for it on the next chance I get (and it almost always happens). In many instances, these technologies are reliant on cookies to function properly, and so declining cookies will impair their functioning. If you fill in all of the squares first before your opponent, then you earn the wizard’s powers which will enable you to use a special, one time power to aid you in the game. While only one of the spells give you straight up points, many of the others can be really strong in the right situations.

To refuse these cookies, please follow the instructions below under the heading "How can I control cookies? We've not had the pleasure of trying Queendomino to date, but I've heard that its like its sibling, but with strategic additions, and this concerned me as to whether it would be as accessible. I wasn't expecting much from Kingdomino Duel, I certainly wasn't expecting something that was so easy to learn as well as teach.

A simpler and less type-A person would probably just draw lines rather than trying to fill them in like bars, but I contain multitudes and if I can’t be artistic then I’m gonna settle on being demanding. You will often need to play as optimally as you can, based on the now, as opposed to any forward planning. The game ends when either: At least one player fills in the last remaining empty spot on his/her map, or when neither player can place his/her domino this turn.
