About this deal

You may not know the answer just from using a compression tester, but you will know one answer: Whether or not you need to open up the engine for a closer look. There is less tendency to rotate when the piston is at top dead center, especially with small bore engines.

In some scenarios, an engine may create an acceptable amount of compression but worn-out piston rings or valves could be allowing pressure to escape. You can test both of these at one time without rotating the engine at all as the cam position is NOT part of the equation.Testing is done on an engine which is not running, and normally with the tested cylinder at top dead center on compression, although testing can be done at other points in the compression and power stroke. Most instruments use 100 psi (690 kPa) as the input pressure simply because ordinary 100psi gauges can be used which corresponds to 100% but there is no necessity for that pressure beyond that.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. It is normally done at TDC (top dead center) on the compression stroke but as you will see it can be done at other crankshaft positions.

Suits all local and imported cars and trucks, ideal for testing trucks and car models where clearance is minimal.

Insert the leak-down tester hose into the spark plug hole, then connect it to a compressed air source of at least 100 psi.We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others.

A compression tester is a quick and easy way to show if a catastrophic problem exists, and on which cylinder(s). Now you read the second gauge on the leak-down tester, which indicates the amount of pressure actually in the cylinder. These types of scenarios are accounted for in our ranking process to ensure every option is truly the "best of. comes with 12mm and 14mm fittings, and must be calibrated before each use by manipulating the Schrader valve for the regulator. A weak battery, a corroded starter cable, or a hot starter can all cause the engine to crank slower, which can affect the test results. For example, a leaking exhaust valve will make a hissing noise in the exhaust pipe while a head gasket may cause bubbling in the cooling system. Just as a side note dont lend it to friends I am still looking for the one that I worked for and someone borrowed!
