I would argue none were bigger than Matthew McConaughey partnering with Wild Turkey to launch Longbranch bourbon. Having not tasted the original, unaltered bottle of Longbranch, it’s hard for me to say whether the experiment was a success.

I also don’t like to completely kill beloved bottles like this, so I had to have a backup bottle to tag David in. Longbranch Bourbon was created in 2016 by Wild Turkey Master Distiller Eddie Russell and cultural tastemaker Matthew McConaughey. This is the first time Wild Turkey has released a product that features a signature of someone other than the master distillers Jimmy and Eddie Russell.Born and raised in Chicago Matt spent the last decade hunting the unattainable only to find the beauty in the everyday affordable Bourbons you can readily find. Flavours of Caramel, Pear, and hints of Citrus round out the palate with a Subtle, Smokey Finish it is Buttery Smooth with notes of gentle Pepper and Toasted Oak. Longbranch is a collaboration of Wild Turkey creative director Matthew McConaughey and master distiller Eddie Russell.

The bottle bears the signatures of both men on the label, and with sweet citrus and spicy notes, it's far more than. I like the fact it has a lingering dry taste on the mouth and a little bit of a burnt caramel flavour. Set apart from its Wild Turkey siblings by the unusual refinement techniques used in its production – the whiskey is run first through charcoal from white American oak and then again through charcoal from Texan mesquite – Longbranch boasts a rich warmth and a prodigious flavour. We also won’t wonder whether the concept of mellowing Wild Turkey bourbon through Texas Mesquite charcoal was his idea or not.McConaughey and the Russells say they were going for a sweeter, mellower, easier-drinking style of sipping whiskey but with a hint of Texas smoke.
