About this deal

Created by the late great Tomas Estes (cafe Pacifico) and Carlos Camarena (Tapatio tequila) – two much loved and celebrated tequila experts. Despite the name, its flavour is not bitter at all, with the strong aromatic flavour, powerful with gentian and spices. Ocho Reposado is a fantastic choice for the tequila lovers - the single estate nature of the spirit gives you a chance to explore the idea of terroir and vintage, while the short time in oak adds. The boldness of its orange flavour is matched note for note by the quinine bitterness that makes it a popular and distinctive aperitif.

An estate-grown, 100% Blue Agave Tequila range, OCHO is produced as a collaboration between Tomas Estes (the man credited with bringing the first bottle of Tequila to Europe) and renowned distillers, the Camarena family. Very faint liquorice, smashed Parma Violet and army and navy sweets wrapped in lavender on the finish.Palate: Sweet and very fruity, quite tangy too with notes of damsons, black pepper, pine forests and more of that zest from the nose. Cloves and cinnamon can be tasted through the orange and a strong woody end note leaves an enjoyable aftertaste, leaving a satisfying bitterness in the mouth. The founding distiller, Carlos Camarena used the 8th sample batch of Ocho to finalise and sell to the world and he also had 8 brothers and sisters! Lightly vegetal and savoury (caraway) on the nose, with lifted notes of lime flower and citrus/green apple. Aber ehrlicher nach meinem Geschmack und schon in die selbe Richtung wie das bisherigen Ideal ( Villa Lobos Blanco ) , dafür ein wenig günstiger ( aber nur 0,5 Liter ) .

Tomas and Carlos use a single estate approach, field specific production to show that terroir exists with tequila, just like in wine.

Urban Bar take our design rights and intellectual property very seriously, we do not create items for others to copy.

Understanding the all-important terroir in grapes, Carlos and Tomas looked to their highland agaves and realised that these incredible plants could carry their heritage just as well as any vineyard. Lemon zest then comes to the forefront followed closely by a sweet pepper taste that moves through the soft kick. Made with 100% Blue Agave (the precise field is marked on the neck of the bottle), Ocho use traditional methods from brick ovens, 4-5 day open vat fermentation using indigenous yeast and a double distillation in a mix of steel and copper stills. Ocho is also the first tequila to designate both the year it was produced and the precise field from which the agave was harvested as is done with fine wines.

With custard, nutmeg, fresh cracked pepper and heaps of agave on the nose, and flavours of pineapple and warm spices on the palate this truly is a stand out product. Note the light colour in Ocho’s aged expressions: this is natural colour from the barrel – Ocho is one of the few 100% additive-free tequilas in the market. Tequila Ocho is a joint partnership between the Camarenas, a third generation Tequilero and Tomas Estes, a restaurateur (Cafe Pacifico, La Perla), author (The Tequila Ambassador) and the ambassador for tequila in Europe. While the style is the same year on year, the varying fields from which it's harvested creates variations.

Palate: Honey sweetness, radish vegetal notes, strong minerality, cacao nibs, green olive, grapefruit zest with undertones of strawberry and red fruits. The Liberator Wines We’ve had the great pleasure of knowing Richard for many years now – not just from a shared passion of South African wine, but also out of mutual respect. Another stellar single estate Tequila from Ocho, this Blanco expression was produced with agave from rancho La Coruña.A tequila that is made traditionally through a slow cooking process, Ocho accentuates the agave flavour and it’s flavour develops over time. The palate has bright red berries at the entry, followed by pepper, fresh mint, dark bitter chocolate, vanilla and butterscotch. A 100% agave Tequila sourced entirely from Camarena’s own fields, Ocho takes its name (‘eight’ in English) in part from the fact that this was the eighth recipe (‘muestra’) presented to Estes by Camarena. Produced in small batches in the highlands of Jalisco, this is a lovely single estate Tequila with rgeat balance and depth.
