About this deal

George Wallace, Curtis LeMay and Hubert Humphrey occupy the Oval Office after Kennedy finishes his second term; Ronald Reagan defeats Humphrey in the 1976 election.

He enlists Jake on an insane—and insanely possible—mission to try to prevent the Kennedy assassination. Since the part where he tries to stop Kennedy's assassination doesn't happen until about 750 pages into the book, King compensates by having other characters behave in very violent ways. He weaves historical fact with fiction with historical fiction with time travel with a love story for the ages.

NPR book critic Alan Cheuse found no fault with the structure, commenting: "I wouldn't have [King] change a single page. If you also had a chance to time travel, would you try to save JFK from the patsy or the real killer’s bullets ( in this book: patsy is the killer) in expanse the change of the entire time line like Jake Epping did in this story ? Historical [ edit ] Lee Harvey Oswald A former expatriate to the Soviet Union who serves as the main antagonist of the story.

King and Dorr traveled to Dallas, where they visited Oswald's apartment building (now a private residence), found the home of Gen.But after the realization that he didn´t just change his writing style and its focus, but also the way he deals with topics, digging deeper was necessary.

While we're at it, sexism: our hero is a guy who starts dating a woman in about 1961, and he also spends a number of years teaching high school (don't get me started on that--an English teacher from 2011 travels back 50 years and starts teaching adolescents seamlessly, without having any trouble adjusting to the loss of the most recent five decades of writing to teach from? I know my experience would have been cheapened by knowing too much beforehand, so I'm not going to tell you what it's about in the style of a traditional book review. As we move toward the event itself, King has a decision to make as to whether this was the case, or whether one of the many conspiracy theories about Kennedy’s death provides a better version of the truth, and it is interesting to see which road he chooses. He moves out of Lisbon Falls and finds that Sadie is being celebrated as a "Citizen of the Century" in Jodie, and he goes to the party being held. His delay was due to the fact that he wanted to be absolutely sure that Oswald was a killer and would act alone. In the meantime, let me try to put into words what most of you have already said, since I'm the last person on planet earth to read 11/22/63. I could mention the two female family members we are introduced to as well, but they aren't characters--the narrative states explicitly at one point that they are interchangeable.

So the "dramatic" parts of the story involve our hero attempting to get to his destination and, for example, having to stop for green lights while traffic barrels through in the other direction, then having to go deal with his overwhelming diarrhea, then having to talk some completely random guy out of shooting him for a nonsense reason. Oh, well, I guess we did think that saving JFK would make things much better, but we don’t think there’s a big conspiracy.

King takes the Mark Twain A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court time machine idea of a strange occurrence that is never thoroughly explained or understood. Kennedy (and if the title fails to convey the message, then hopefully you - like yours truly - have Google-pedia'd it. Al has aged overnight, a process exacerbated by the cancer that is killing him, cancer that he did not have the previous evening, when Jake last saw him. He receives an essay from one of the students—a gruesome, harrowing first person story about the night 50 years ago when Harry Dunning’s father came home and killed his mother, his sister, and his brother with a hammer.
