About this deal

Also on the island is a bombed out U-Boat facility and supposedly underground passages and caverns where ships may still exist and as we will learn, the possibility of a fortune in gold bars. We're delighted to be working on an international picture", said second unit director Alan Simmonds. I did think at that point that there was a chance that could end up being the best scene in the film because I don't know how any film could follow a moment like that, it was fabulous. Denn was als Forschungsreise beginnt, entpuppt sich vor Kamin eines kleinen arktischen Hüttendorfs als Sabotagekrimi!

Lansing and Rubin disobey instructions and venture into the area near the U-boat base but someone triggers an avalanche using explosive charges, killing Rubin. However, due to this movie's disappointing box-office performance, "Goodbye, California", and the other titles were never made by producer Peter Snell, who had bought the rights to numerous MacLean works in 1975, including ones at the time that had not even been published or written yet. MacLean’s first novel garnered him a very large advance (headline news in postwar Britain), but it was a good bet. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. American scientist Frank Lansing (Donald Sutherland) has come because his father was a U-boat commander who died there, and as accidents start to decimate the expedition he begins to realise that some of his colleagues are after a shipment of gold aboard the U-boat that his father commanded. He had aged considerably and wasn’t the virile action star I had imagined him to be at this point in his film career.

Not sure why I wouldn’t have seen this when it was first released…it’s just the type of movie I would’ve checked out that year, when I started going to the walking-distance multiplex regularly and catching at least a movie a week.Widmark too, as the German leader of the excursion, spoke in an obviously fake cadence that jarred every time he opened his mouth, and Christopher Lee was there demonstrating his Russian accent as heard when he played Rasputin a decade and a half ago, though you had to assume that was at least authentic-sounding.
