Soon, the tropical orchids were sent from Réunion to the Comoros Islands, Seychelles, and Madagascar, along with instructions for pollinating them. Fertilization varies with soil conditions, but general recommendations are: 40 to 60 g of N, 20 to 30 g of P 2O 5 and 60 to 100 g of K 2O should be applied to each plant per year besides organic manures, such as vermicompost, oil cakes, poultry manure, and wood ash.

Claims that pollination is achieved by stingless bees of the genus Melipona or hummingbirds have never been substantiated, though they do visit the flowers. These seed pods are roughly a third of an inch (8 mm) by six inches (15 cm), and brownish red to black when ripe.
