Is it safe to use a teaspoon of soda crystals when hand washing dishes along with my regular washing up liquid? If you've filled the reservoir to the top you may be able to scoop a fair amount of the crystals (why not put them down the sink to help keep it fresh? It's worth a try but, if it doesn't work, check out our other article on how to get hair out of drains. I have used Cillit Bang on raw brass, no hot water or soda needed, I don't know how it would work on other metals.
Once you've manually removed as much as you can, boil a full kettle of water and pour it into the reservoir; the hot water will dissolve the Soda Crystals and displace them in solution. I had a very slow-running sink outflow pipe on my caravan, but was worried that if I used something as strong as caustic soda to try to clear it, it would damage/melt the (flexible) plastic pipe.
Soda crystals are known for their multi-purpose cleaning properties, removing grease, unblocking pipes, and clean your outside surfaces to make your home shine!
Note that it's not particularly a chemical reaction that's having an impact in this case, but a physical one as the two chemicals neutralise each other. Throw in a bar of Cadbury's Dairy Milk Chocolate or a bar of Divine Dark Chocolate and you will be a happy bunny!Sometimes, a supermarket will make its own version, but these crystals aren’t necessarily sold everywhere in the UK.
