About this deal

It gets a bit convoluted when you consider there’s a somewhat vague equalizer, personalized sound profiles (based on age or actual hearing), and the Crusher function — all of which reshape your output. You might enjoy this sound signature more, but noise cancellation modes should ideally never influence the sound signature. They also mention that the noise-canceling and base features are strong, and you can actually feel the music. With that said, if you’re a bass head, consider the Crusher mode as a challenge, granted, one where the novelty wears off quickly.

I listened to the track side-by-side on the Skullcandy Crusher ANC 2 and an older pair of Sony WH-1000XM3 (the predecessor to the five-star XM4, which have now been succeeded by the new XM5) and from the opening word of ‘Don’t’ the Sony pair had far greater impact, with Billie’s voice being the clear standout of the whole arrangement. So unless you really love bass and want to feel ever EDM drop, your money is spent better elsewhere. Item number VM5SO Skullcandy Crusher ANC 2 Wireless Over-ear Headphones - personalised sound to suit you. Epic Noise Cancelling - The Crusher ANC 2 has 4 microphones listening to all outside noise to actively mute the outside world. Hour Battery - Skullcandy's biggest battery, get up to 50 hours on a single charge and if you do run out of charge a 10 minute charge will give you 4 hours.Onto the battery life, it's up to 50hrs which is plentifull and also comes with a rapid charge which is great if your in a hurry. and you can control media players, summon your assistant (including Alexa and iHeart), access Spotify or even take a photo. Our personalized EQ actually dialed down the headphone’s bass slightly compared to turning the EQ off. I have yet to find similar issues in the Crusher ANC 2 and feel I could easily wear them for longer listening sessions.

While others give their headphones a modern bass tuning, Skullcandy simply builds a fat subwoofer into the earcups, which makes your ears flap. First up, we carried out the test via Bluetooth, without ANC enabled, without hearing profiles activated and with the bass in a neutral position. It’s reminiscent of the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro plastic, and although less prone to dust collection, it does pick up fingerprints.

But a relative lack of detail and dynamic expression does mean it can’t rub shoulders with the best-in-class competition.

At 50% strength, I was better able to discern individual guitar and synth notes, whereas 100% saw them getting lost in the frenzy. For me, the Skullcandy Crusher ANC 2 is a fun pair of headphones that doesn't appear to take itself too seriously.
