About this deal

The podcast is sponsored by Talisker, the single malt whisky made by the sea - their values of outdoor challenge and sharing time together make them the perfect partners for this. I found the first half to be a slow read and at one point I seriously considered giving up and starting a new book. From deployment in Afghanistan to walking to the North Pole, Jason highlights what it takes to develop emotional resilience from working within some of the most pressurised environments on earth. The guys and girls who are in it, have their specific tasks, and sometimes it’s about going, “let’s slow down, come in. Jason Fox, often referred to by his nickname 'Foxy', [1] is a television personality, adventurer and a former UK Special Forces soldier and Royal Marine Commando.

He goes through relationships in a manner that at least seems as hectic as his life in the SBS, first one partner and then another and then another. Fox repeatedly states his love for his children but never illustrates it: a bit too much like parents who are so inept they have their kids taken into care - yes, they may love them but can't get their heads around the "mundane" tasks of feeding, clothing, cleaning, keeping house etc. I’ve since been approached by men and women from all walks of life who have explained how the writing encouraged them to ask some painfully honest questions of their own. For me, the sadness of this was compounded when he was written-off by the military and encouraged to leave the job that had brought him such meaning before he became so severely ill.Her style of therapy seemed to be to offer an attitude of total forgiveness, and this seemed key in Foxy coming to terms with his trauma — perhaps she was the mother figure he longed for in the heat of battle — and yet she did not completely forgive Foxy for the things he did in war, and seemed perturbed that her therapy had played a role in enabling him to continue to promote war and violence in the form of his SAS selection programme. The adventure started with a 49-mile hike from Skagway to Lake Bennet, where the kayak journey stretched from Lake Bennett to the Bering Sea, across 48 days. I’ve heard of people whose successful businesses were ruined by a negative relationship with alcohol. These days, if ever I’m asked for advice, or whenever a new intake at Rock2Recovery has asked me for help, I often use the same line: honesty is everything. It is a very interesting read wich gives interesting insights into the stresses and horrors of war and mostly covers Jason foxes battles with ptsd and depression.

Ex-special forces soldier, star of TV’s SAS: Who Dares Wins, Inside The Real Narcos and author of The Number One Bestseller Battle Scars; Jason Fox will bring to the stage and on tour the remarkable story of his daring exploits in a distinguished career as an elite operator in the UK Special Forces (SBS). Jason Fox joined the Royal Marine Commandos at sixteen, serving for ten years, after which he passed the gruelling selection process for the Special Forces, serving with the Special Boat Service for over a decade and reaching the rank of Sergeant. Some people keep missing their work or personal targets without ever realizing why, but brutal self-honesty is a great way of shining a light on our weak spots. It’s been phenomenal to see how both civilians and celebrities have thrown themselves into the show over the years.Fox, with his co-star of SAS: Who Dares Wins, Ollie Ollerton, co-founded a corporate team building, training and events company.

We honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' continuous connection to Country, waters, skies and communities. In this episode, Aldo Kane and Foxy talk to the Latitude 35 rowing team on the day the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge kicks off. This book allows you to see into the mind of a man who is full of bravery and learn from him how to build and develop yourself more under stressful situations. Nothing could have prepared the world for that moment, but Jason was at least in peak mental and physical fitness for the challenges to come.

The ex-special forces star of Channel 4’s SAS: Who Dares Wins reveals one of the hardest battles he fought was in his mind. The content is solid, i hope him tellin his story about what he went through and what he really felt can help others still being ashamed of mental troubles. Jason Fox served with the SBS for over a decade, thriving on the close bonds of the Special Forces brotherhood and the ‘death or glory’ nature of their missions. So a chance to join Special Forces came at the perfect time – as they’re often in active service, even in peacetime. A huge thank you to my most recent sponsors for your incredible support - ThruDark, Elliot Brown Watches you have been phenomenal!

Time issues and deadlines, information required that you don’t have – you can see people go into a flat spin. From gunfights, hostage rescues, daring escapes and heroic endeavours that defined Jason Fox’s service, to a very different battle that awaited him at home. As the author himself noted at one point in the book (and I wholeheartedly agree), no one in the throes of desperate psychological distress should make any big decisions, and yet the military psychiatric services (who should have known better) failed to offer him the protection he deserved when he was at his most vulnerable.

Today you are most likely to find him gracing our television screens and giving us a taste of action and adventure around the world. Cbt and emdr are both useful in the right context, but we really need to drop the ‘one size fits all’ approach. In the latest podcast Foxy (SAS: Who Dares Wins) speaks to explorer and survivalist Ness Knight, whose life brings new meaning to the phrase: 'challenge yourself'. The autobiography is of a man who had to deal with the wounds from battles as a Special Forces Soldier. I had a word with myself, realised things had to change and that moment of honesty was a real defining moment.
