The Stone docking station from Henge Docks (I’m guessing the name’s an ironic nod to England’s neolithic monument Stonehenge) is a slim tethered dock that looks as gorgeous as the MacBooks that it is built to extend.
After swapping my new machine for another brand new MBP and seeing the same problem the issue escalated all they way up through to the Apple hardware team. The Vertical Dock passes the connections directly from your MacBook through two USB-C ports at a full 40Gbps. I can't imagine what this would look like if I had to hide a DVI to Mini DisplayPort adapter under there as well as Ethernet, Firewire 800 and audio. Please firstly contact one of the contact options listed below with any questions about or problems with a item from this manufacturer. Perhaps in future versions Henge Docks could design a break-free clamp, but for now users are stuck with the screw-in anchor.I sometimes have to unplug and plug the cable to the T3 dock when I turn on the MacBook to get the dual monitor display working but that’s reasonable since there are effectively 3 docks between the laptop and the monitor. Not the biggest issue, but their video of someone taking it in and out with ease is very unrealistic. In regards to the Ethernet cable, Henge Docks should include a coupler so I can easily hook it up to my existing Ethernet cable. Unfortunately, Henge Docks does not offer a MacBook Air version due to the fact that the Air has ports on both sides so you'd still need to manually connect cables, defeating the purpose entirely.An apparent glaring omission on the Stone dock is an HDMI port, which is one of the main slots many need for their new laptops, but Stone isn’t alone in omitting HDMI – and all is explained below.
As mentioned above, we found the dock to be quite sturdy, especially given the new design's metal build. You can simply slide your MacBook into the Henge Vertical Dock, and it connects the laptop’s USB-C ports to its own, mounted on one side. That exposed MagSafe connector and cable detracts a bit from the overall sleek look of the setup, but it was probably the right choice given that users will always be connected to a monitor, but have the option of ditching the power cable virtually all day if they wish (thanks to the 13-inch MacBook Air’s 12-hour battery life).
The Vertical Dock works with any connections that work with your MacBook Pro making it at home in any environment. My curiosity piqued as I got up to speed on what Henge Docks was all about; not just a glorified vertical stand for Apple notebooks, oh no.
The color is somewhere between Apple’s silver and Space Gray, so should look good with MacBooks of either color. This is not the case with docks that boast 40Gbps Thunderbolt 3 ports, such as the CalDigit TS3 Plus.
