Of course, learning Sieh was the narrator did not put me off at all, at least in terms of his narrative voice: he is as excellent a narrator as Yeine and Oree were, which is a good thing because I think that any novel that attempts to use a first-person perspective must have a narrator with an interesting voice. Instead, these novels are about characters, and how they relate to one another, whether they be mortals, demons, godlings, or gods. Hardly ever do I find myself enjoying the tv series/movie more than a book version but I have to admit I think that the historical and political aspects of the story were far superior in the Netflix series.

I also felt that the Doctor was a great character, and her personality and her viewpoint was more than enough to complement the reader. The concept has also found itself drifting into sci-fi from time to time, but it has found a home for itself in fantasy, since the cyclical nature of the concept lends itself very well to many fantasy stories. From the clouds in the sky to Jae-ha’s battles with the assassins to a horde of the living dead rushing after its prey, Kyung-il Yang’s art is what stands out from The Kingdom of the Gods.The Inheritance Trilogy has all the elements I love in fantasy: worlds that are fresh and not overly derivative of fantasy that's gone before, complex characters with both strengths and flaws, powerful magic that isn't just a substitute for technology but affects everything from the obvious like power structures to the subtle, like everyday attitudes and habits. Especially as The Kingdom of the Gods was originally a web-comic and therefore is in manhwa format, meaning that there is very little text.
