About this deal

For people who read an Holocaust Survivor story for the first time, i hope it will give you the will to read other story like hers, they did go through almost the same thing but they don't remember it the same way and most of all, they don't describe it the same way. Life continued largely as normal for the family, until the death of the father from natural causes in 1942. Como todos os livros de testemunhos de Auschwitz, para além de carregar os horrores experienciados, também transmite uma enorme mensagem de esperança. Lily’s Promise – named just that because Lily herself made a promise to herself in the depths of Auschwitz – should she survive she would live her life and dedicate her life ensuring the world knew exactly what happened during the holocaust.

On arrival, Lily's mother and her youngest sister and younger brother were immediately sent to the gas chamber, while Lily and her other two sisters Rene and Piri survived to go through months of work, exhaustion and starvation.Couldn't put this down, well written, you must have had so many emotions and difficulty finding the right words but was done splendidly.

This is so important, not only to educate everyone on what happened, but to ensure the countless lives lost are not forgotten either. And when her great-grandson, Dov, decided to use social media to track down the family of the GI, 96-year-old Lily found herself making headlines round the world.I appreciate that, because other survivor testimonies I’ve read stop shortly after liberation, but of course the trauma continues. Having read this book I am struck by two things; Lily Ebert is a remarkable woman and her great grandson, Dov Forman, is also a very remarkable young man. Niekedy sa žiaľ holokaust a vtedajšie udalosti skresľujú, bagatelizujú, zjemňujú, či dokonca popierajú.

We must never forget the horrors of the Holocaust; Lily is an incredible lady and an inspiration to us all. I’ve always been interested in the Holocaust, I’ve always watched movies, documentaries, and read whatever I could find online about it. It allows you to follow along, understanding why she makes the choices she makes - especially when she is not given any choice. When Holocaust survivor Lily Ebert was liberated in 1945, a Jewish-American soldier gave her a banknote on which he’d written ‘Good luck and happiness’.

Utterly compelling, heartbreaking, truthful and yet redemptive, a memoir of the Holocaust, a testimony of irrepressible spirit and an unforgettable family chronicle, written in lucid prose by a truly remarkable woman . The book, which she co-wrote with her great-grandson, Dov Forman, is permeated by a sense of hope that Lily retains in both her educational work and daily life. Meanwhile at Yom Kippur 1944, Lily had promised that, if she survived, she would never let the world forget what she and her fellows suffered. I knew that place very well and the people who lived there… I realized what they had done to those families being their neighbours. Lily tracks the occasions on which simple moments of kindness from strangers enabled her to cultivate her sense of hope.

A Jewish-American soldier is one of her liberators, and he gives her a dollar bill on which he had written, “Good luck and happiness. Lily kept her mother's jewels hidden in her shoe and, later, in successive pieces of daily bread throughout her experiences. I first heard of Lily through TikTok, and to be able to not only read her story, but to hear her voice and witness her beautiful spirit through her online presence is such an honor. An incredible, beautiful written page turner, I didn’t want the book to end- and not only because the story shows, photos which are interesting and was very suspense that keeps you riveted from the start to the end.Though this might seem like an overwhelming challenge, what we can do is advocate for better education on both the Holocaust and contemporary antisemitism. Príbeh sa rýchlo stal virálnym a Lily mala dokonca možnosť porozprávať sa s vojakovou rodinou cez Zoom.
