When I’ve listened on the streams and the CD, by the time I get to the second half of the album my ears and mind are a bit digitally exhausted. A limited-edition black vinyl release of the Grammy-award winning U2 album Achtung Baby, to celebrate its 30 thAnniversary. Vinyl in excellent condition, very minimal spindle marks, minimal background noise, scuffs and superficial surface marks. Opening up Side Four with a song like “Ultraviolet (Light My Way)” is a final burst, allowing the song to stand out on its own — vs. Yes I own a lot of the material already but the new items and the packaging (mainly the book) justify double dipping for this release. The latter was a 20th anniversary edition and contained six CDs, four DVDs, a 2LP version of the album and five singles pressed on transparent vinyl in special oversized wallets. Finally there is "Everybody Loves A Winner" a slower song with Bono mostly singing in falsetto and some nice Edge background vocals. The reason for mentioning this is because U2 have just announced some 30th anniversary editions of the Achtung Baby album and the contrast to the activity ten years ago is stark. Although 2011 is probably best remembered as the year of Pink Floyd’s ‘Immersion’ box sets, there were two mega-boxes which were ahead of their time and helped define a new era of ‘super deluxe edition’ box sets. Concert films aren't my favorite things to watch but this was a really great show with a nice set list.

The album will be reissued across five formats and content will include previously unreleased material, live and documentary video footage, remixes, b-sides and even an album full of demo and early versions of the final 1991 track listing.

Celebrating the 30th anniversary of U2’s Achtung Baby , November 2021 sees the release of limited edition vinyl format of the Grammy-award winning album. Produced by Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno, and recorded between Berlin’s Hansa Studios and various locations in Dublin, Achtung Baby was released to huge critical acclaim in 1991. Zooropa appears to be the same mix but is still a great album and I hope it gets its own edition when the time comes. There are many nice amplifier tones and the ambiance of the studios Achtung BABY was recorded in coming through the speakers on this pressing.

The one complaint is all of the CDs and DVDs are actually housed in the inside covers rather then having individual cases (got to get the Uber edition for that). If U like U2, get a good original 1991 copy (black vinyl) and enjoy the sound and the picture of this great U2 collector! The band then waltzes in high gear through the 6/8-time “Acrobat”driving toward the rich moody ending of “Love Is Blindness.
