About this deal

Alter Bridge guitar hero Mark Tremonti reflects on some of the most important songs of his life (spoiler: he really, really likes Metallica).

The EP was released on CD and LP, while the digital and streaming versions were released together with Walk the Sky as a deluxe bundle. I haven’t talked about lyrical content but there is sort of an introspective feel on this entire album.

Given longer writing periods with the whole band together, I truly believe AB has the potential to deliver something truly extraordinary, which 'WTS' sadly is not. Some of those feelings can be understandably dark but I also feel a glimmer of hope, even within some of the darkest places of the record. In fact, there are so many nuances in the songs, Walk The Sky sits nicely on top of my list of favorite Alter Bridge records. Considering that these men all have to eat at the end of the day in a market which is becoming increasingly saturated, this move is somewhat justified.

There is an argument to be made that a more varied pace might have made the overall feel of the album slightly less uniform. In doing so, the band understand that power is nothing without control; when the music is reined in, as it is on parts of the Soundgarden-esque Walking On The Sky – not in the sky, you’ll notice, but on it – they purr like a finely tuned engine popping out for a pint of milk and a paper. I would be surprised if this one did not make it to the setlist for live shows, but as it happens, sometimes the most epic songs are not to be played live.
