It’s not revolutionary in any particular way, but the Canon IXUS 220 HS is a competent, consistent performer. Ranged parallel to this is a two-setting slider switch for alternating between Smart Auto, the default scene and subject recognizing option for pure point and shoot operation, and Program auto, via which a greater range of hands on control including effects filters can be accessed.The video quality is a little noisy, but everything else about this interior panning shot is good, from exposure and white balance to audio quality. Though the ELPH 300 HS / IXUS 220 HS doesn’t have a hotshoe it can be used with Canon’s HF-DC1 and HF-DC2 external slave flash units. The camera is ready to take pictures within a couple of seconds of switching on and there is no significant lag from shot-to-shot. Canon sent us a vivid scarlet review sample, against which the black top plate shutter release and power controls stand out very clearly.
