If you are looking for an aromatic fougere from the 80s that has aged gracefully, Edition is a great choice. I am in possession of a 7ml sample bottle of the original from 1984 and recently a 100ml bottle of a younger product. At first when openning, l was uncomfortable with balsamic scent but after a few hours of dry down l found and fond of its base note of both oakmoss and fir, prevailing such a good scent for the grown up anyway this one is good to me it can be last for at least 8 hours in the warm weather.

Also I just don't get the whole tendency to think that a perfume shouldn't change, that the original is inherently the best and so on.

you wont be knocking people over across the room with this for sure and longevity is also average, i get about 5 hours tops. Dunhill Edition is one of the best values out there and a must try if you like your vetivers light but yet woody, clean, soapy and fresh. The middle notes are Lily-of-the-Valley, clary sage, cyclamen, geranium, jasmine and carnation which provide a floral scent. Great scent profile, good performance, good value for money and versatile; everything a good mens fragrance needs to be.Edition is subtle, warm yet fresh, it will give the impression that you are not wearing a cologne but have just walked out of the shower. Clove and oakmoss, slight citrus on top and the geranium and nutmeg so beautifully interwoven, this, for me, is a man who knows himself and is unapologetic in his chivalry and grace though knows how to be forceful and persuasive when needs be. A very polished, mature, refined fragrance, something you'd imagine somebody like Clark gable or Carey Grant would wear.
