About this deal

To do this, you take the main brewing group collar — that big tube of beefy steel and rubber — and put it in a bowl or cup, and pour boiling water into it, filling it up.

The piston and grouphead is a bit more difficult, but only because of great quality seals and rubber gaskets used to keep water pressure intact. When I first looked at the bits in the case, it looked a bit intimidating in terms of how many bits there are and how much figuring out I may have to do – I may even have to resort to reading the instructions? I thought the biggest issue people would have with the machine was finding the right grind, and using the right piston lever pressure, but the cleaning regimen between shots was seen as a barrier, as well as brewing multiple shots. The NEO Flex is the latest offering from Flair, built for beginners and those seeking convenient, affordable espresso at home. The Mypressi ultimately failed, but the striking look — it looked like the front of the Discovery Spaceship in 2001: Space Odyssey — and its portability and automation were excellent, as was the output. It is portable, relatively light weight (certainly a lot more light than lugging around an electric espresso machine in your travels), looks great, and once you figure out how to use it and grind for it, very easy to use. We offer a number of extras to enhance your brewing experience, including an extra portafilter to brew consecutive shots without cleaning first and a temperature strip for improved heat management. I was finding the flow on the slow side to begin with, and therefore the Espresso over extracted, and when I went more coarse it didn't seem to help, but I wasn't quite going course enough it would appear, and issues I was having with dosing didn't help.

I'm not saying Flair is difficult to use, but there's less to do with Rok, you don't have to assemble it, you don't have to put the brew head and the cylinder together, you don't have to put in the piston, you just dose the portafilter and insert it as you would with a powered Espresso machine, and then pour in the water. If I'm pushed to pick a winner, then from my side by side testing, the Rok just wins this one, not so much in terms of Espresso quality potential, but in terms of how quickly and easily I was able to pull great tasting shots of Espresso with both Espresso makers. Maintaining all the performance of the original PRO, the PRO 2 features four upgrades including a removable spout, an enhanced bottomless portafilter, a gauge guard for increased durability and a silicone grip for better brewing ergonomics.Other commenters have mentioned the quality of the portafilter of the ROK and I have to agree its low quality. Having said that, I do think, judging from other reviews I've read such as the Flair Espresso Review on Home Barista, that this kind of quality is possible. Available in 5 models: NEO, Classic , PRO 2, and 58 these beautifully designed espresso machines will surely be the signature of your kitchen, office or coffee station. FULLY PORTABLE – All Flair Classic Espresso Makers come standard with our precision cut and padded carrying case meaning you can take your manual espresso maker anywhere you’d like.

Intact Idea’s liability under this warranty shall be limited to repair or replacement of the defective part(s), whichever may apply. Rok wins for ease of use, clean up after each shot, and espresso quality in terms of how quickly I was able to start making great shots of Espresso with Rok vs how long it took me to achieve the same with Flair. From the standard ratio/grind adjustment, to temperature profiling and advanced pressure profiles, the Flair gives you the ability to explore it all in a compact and attractive package that you can take anywhere. Brew with the spout in to reduce any mess from wayward espresso sprays, or remove the spout and brew bottomless to see your extraction and to help you dial-in your grind.Once the goods have been received back and checked, as per our terms and conditions, we will issue a full refund or exchange on receipt. I have no easy way of measuring the true applied water pressure in the Flair, but my best, slightly educated mathematical guess is, based on the lever canter, length, pressure applied and the materials used (and their resulting effect on pressure loss, it’s around 6 to 8 bars of pressure applied; going higher than this can result in potential gasket failures. But one of the more exciting one to be released in recent memory is the Flair Espresso Maker, which is the subject of this review. The device has rubber feet, but our experience is the base still slides around a lot (perhaps an upgrade to the rubber feet, either by you, the owner, or the company down the road would be a good change), so it helps to grip the back of the machine as well as pulling down on the lever. If you really want to duplicate a shot of espresso that you get from a high-quality espresso maker, the Flair will get you there.

I think it was mainly to do with dosing and the grind, but I was following the instructions, so I have to be honest and say that I was able to make great quality Espresso via Rok straight away, whereas it took me longer with Flair. There’s been a few portable “espresso” makers introduced since, some hits, some complete wiffle balls. COMPLETE BREW CONTROL – The Flair PRO 2 features a custom pressure gauge with an Espresso Zone between 6-9 BAR, exactly that needed to create cafe-quality manual espresso extractions. This is a question I asked when I reviewed the Rok, and as with Rok, Flair certainly makes true Espresso, with no electricity, no pumps, and no steam involved – which I do find amazing.Just keep in mind that if you do that you'll need to pre-heat the piston too, while there's no need to pre-heat the plastic piston.
