About this deal

The question of aquadoors and skimmers / Gizzmos etc, has come up a couple of times today and there's something I haven't seen addressed yet. simply put gizmo in the skimmer box and put some pool noodles to fill, plus screwing the skimmer cover. It is strongly recommended that you open your pool early to avoid the green “swampy” water that occurs when strong sunlight and temperatures over 80 degrees are present.

Most pools covered with this type of cover will remain clear until April or May, depending on the weather.

The simple, easy-to-install Deluxe Pool Skimmer Gizzmo will protect the skimmer in your in-ground pool from freezing during winter months. AFTER POOL WATER LEVEL IS BELOW SKIMMER, SCREW THE ULTRA GIZZMO INTO EITHER 1 1/2" OR 2" THREADS UNTIL SECURELY SEATED IN SKIMMER. Water Level: The water level in your pool should be kept at or just below the skimmer when the cover is in use. Aside from this situation, we feel that there is no valid reason to lower the water in the swimming pool. When you cover a pool with a solid cover, any rain, snow or ice on the cover raises the pool water level.

By doing this you will cause an “air lock” in the line and no more water should enter the pipe from the swimming pool side. Then simply place the gizzmo inside the skimmer and cover it with skimmer cover and put a heavy brick on top of the cover. Just wondering if anything needs to be done to line that leads away from where the gizmo was screwed into as it's filled with water now (maybe it always was? I actually see a greater risk of damage with a Gizmo in place - allowing the water to stay in the skimmer box to freeze. I'm in the process of putting together a sticky for closing IG pools similar to what Watermom did for AGs.The only time that a swimming pool needs to have the water lowered is if you have a gunite or cement pool with tile around the top, you know, at the water line. And after the filter is cleaned out with that stuff, you are supposed to re-attach it to your system and immediately start running pool water through it. With a minimum of care and maintenance throughout the winter months, your cover will last longer and your pool will open up with less problems in the spring. for an AGP, if I lower the water below the skimmer and remove the pipe, I should still use one of those skimmer covers? Do you think that I need to screw in the top cover or put a heavy brick on top of it to prevent the gizmo, bottle, pool noodle from coming out, or simply do nothing?

For the skimmer pipe, I blow that dry, inssert gizmo, then fill the pipe with RV antifreeze up to the pump inlet which in my case is higher than the pool water level. You do not have to drain any water out of the pool provided that you have properly blown out and plugged all your underground pipes as outlined above and you do not have a swimming pool that has decorative ceramic tiles at the water line. Cover Draining: Although the mesh center drain panels of your cover will allow rain water to drain into your swimming pool, they are not designed to drain off every drop of water from your cover. If you notice the water level dropping, simply refill with a hose and keep it as high as possible to prevent damage to the cover, liner and walls.I actually thought of using another way that people suggested, an empty plastic bottle ( like antifreeze bottle) with some small rocks inside (so that it sink in the bottom of the skimmer) to replace the gizzmo. It is also a good idea to add 2 or 3 gallons of chlorine shock to the pool in the beginning of April to ensure good water clarity at opening time. If you have tile, and you do not lower the water level, then if the water freezes, it can expand outwards and actually crack the tile.
