About this deal

But for those who wish to know the further gruesome details, I would recommend Colin Wilson's 'The Corpse Garden'.

I understand that the love of your parents stays with you forever, but I cannot agree with the steadfast way Stephen and Mae stand by their mother and father regardless of what they have done. It is shocking and at times upsetting but probably the saddest thing of all is in reading how the two West children appear to be trying to make sense of the nonsensical and inexplicable. This book details a story more fitting to a Hollywood horror movie or dark British drama - but it is real. But I think Fred and Rose did a lot of killings and torture when Mae and Stephen were ASLEEP so they dont actually know the extent of it all as they didn't see it.

The best but of the whole book is the letters at the back of the book from Fred and Rose to Mae and Stephen. However having read books which were obviously published after I had some knowledge of the goings on already, what was nice to hear was Stephens view point in his own words. Their sister, Heather, was 16 when her parents murdered her after she tried to escape – then buried her in the garden. One heartbreaking comment from Stephen (among many) seems to sum up the tragedy of these kids - when normal kids were being tucked up in bed by their parents, they were being "tied" to their beds. The book starts with a detailed description of Fred West’s background and upbringing, which undeniably played a role in the twisted person he became. A story from the two middle children of Fred and Rosemary West, the couple arrested for a series of murders including that of their eldest daughter.

The book then concludes with a second Appendix publishing many of the letters that Fred and Rosemary West sent Stephen and Mae from prison (which makes for some surreal reading to say the least). It’s an emotionally-devastating section, with both kids feeling torn by their love for their mother and their deep-knowledge that she must be punished for what she did. Here you the book details the early life of Fred and Rose as had been told to Stephen and Mae by their parents. Stephen and Mae West take on a big challenge, writing about their family life from when they were small, all the way through to the trials of both Fred and Rosemary. I come to the conclusion that they were brainwashed into standing by them, because what else could the reason be?
