About this deal

With his own emotional attachments to the story (with both the characters of Fluke and Rumbo) Herbert ends the novel with a monumentally heart-warming and beautifully concluding ending. In the first of the series they hear of the disappearance of a young wife and mother, who has vanished from her home, Chester Grange, leaving behind a room covered in blood. When Fluke’s memories of his life before he became a dog begin to slowly claw through the murky depths of his subconscious, the tale takes on a whole new (and very compelling) level. It seems to follow the narrative of the book somewhat, but turns the whole story into a family-friendly film.

I would recommend it to anyone who likes animals, spiritual messages, and of course, a fair little dashing of humour. Wow, this book was an absolute breath of fresh air and a massive departure from the all out horror found in James Herbert's other novels.

I read this book many years ago and gave it to a friend saying if you enjoy it pass it on to a friend of yours. I'm not usually a big fan of stream-of-consciousness writing, and though this is only very loosely SOC, Herbet weaves the story together so well that I didn't really notice. And who told him about the wearing of invisible masks… I wrote a short piece about it and, within twenty minutes of posting it on my blog, it had gone viral.

Since I fear I would not enjoy The Ghosts of Sleath nearly as much if I read it again, I think it's safe to say Fluke is the only great James Herbert book I have ever read. Fluke was released on VHS on November 21, 1995 and LaserDisc on November 28, 1995 by MGM/UA Home Video in North America (which was presented in the theatrical version and available exclusively through Warner Home Video).Fluke supports Bella by helping her earn money from passing strangers, who are impressed with Fluke's ability to beat Bella's shell game. At the time I quite liked the ‘Rat’ novels but even then I preferred his less bloody ones such as ‘Jonah’ or ‘The Spear’.

Albiet sweet, it certainly doesn't have the same soppiness the American movie had, and the message is much stronger in the book. Walker’s excellent dystopian novel featuring dual narratives, that of Reg the human and - most memorably - that of Lineker the dog. It was actually my favourite Herbert, even though it’s his least representative and probably his least influential. Fluke is a story of a puppy as he grows up in a harsh world, but he isn't quite like the other dogs, he has strange recollections of a time before he was a dog, when he was a man.The story is well put together, and while I thought in the first few chapters I may not find this story through the eyes of a dog too interesting, the ensuing 3 chapters hooked me in.

It was exactly as described by the seller and was packaged well to prevent any damage during transit. But this is a fantasy in which he seamlessly steps into the paws of Fluke, the puppy that grows into a dog.His first novel, The Rats, was an instant best-seller and is now recognised as a classic of popular contemporary fiction. During his life as a dog, Fluke gets to know his family better and realizes that he had been a distant workaholic. Somewhere deep in his subconscious, Fluke knows that there’s something different about him, something that separates him from all of the other dogs.
