About this deal

Two young girls were abducted separately, both gone missing for a few days, then were found dead, strangled. I'd been toying with Rankin's other crime fiction work, but then it was time to read the real thing. Two 11-year-old girls were kidnapped and subsequently murdered by a criminal known as the Edinburgh Strangler. Taking hints from seemingly cryptic anonymous letters, John connects the murders to his own military past.

What secret lies hidden in John Rebus' past that does not allow him to connect the dots to realize who the killer is? And although it is a very good story for everybody who reads it, it is very Scottish and the description of. Because he isn't just one cop trying to catch a killer, he's the man who's got all the pieces to the puzzle. There is no build up of love for Rebus here, no chance for us to overcome our disdain for some of his nasty behaviour (his petty theft and possible sexual assault of a one night stand), it's just straight into personal peril. There's the journalist Jim Stevens, who's well aware of what Michael Rebus is involved in, and who wonders what John's role in all this is. Como es la primera que leo del autor solo os puedo decir que la trama es sencilla, con un ritmo pausado pero constante y sin grandes giros.

From the iconic Number One bestseller Ian Rankin, comes one of the must-read books of the year: A SONG FOR THE DARK TIMES 'Genius . Detective Sergeant John Rebus is assigned to the case, a top priority in Edinburgh, where the locals like to think this sort of thing can't happen. Best know for his Rebus series, they deliver hard-boiled crime with a distinct Scottish flavour - sometimes cheesily referred to as "Tartan Noir". Lately, though, I've felt Rankin's pull, especially since Henning Mankell's Wallander books reignited my interest in crime fiction. The character of Rebus is grim, ex-SAS with blocked memories which are eventually unlocked by his hypnotist brother Michael.

Unfortunately, Rebus can't think who might have a grudge against him, especially since he's blocked memories of his SAS days. Ian Rankin is also the recipient of honorary degrees from the universities of Abertay, St Andrews, and Edinburgh. It also starts off overly slowly but starts zipping along once Rebus gets into the thick of the investigation. Much of the story follows the familiar path the reader expects, though this early in the series everything is a touch ragged. Everyone has something to hide A missing private investigator is found, locked in a car hidden deep in the woods.
