About this deal

In this fresh, imaginative new edition, bestselling illustrator Joe Sutphin portrays the characters of Bunyans tale as animals living in a woodland realm. On top of the very readable text and the beautiful illustrations, the summary and the questions at the end of each chapter, make this resource (along with the previous two volumes), useful for family devotions, classrooms, as well as individual use. Perceiving the need for a simpler version of a timeless classic, Helen Taylor faithfully adapted John Bunyan's allegory of the Christian life, The Pilgrim's Progress, for young readers-hoping to bring its treasury of wisdom nearer to children's hearts and minds. While the story itself was fun for my kids, and the illustrations were beautiful, I struggled with the theology.

Five stars for Joe Sutphin's illustrations—they are so warm, charming, and sweet and kept me afloat when the prose was a slog. Taylor took John Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress and simplified the vocabulary and concepts for young readers, while keeping the storyline intact. John Bunyan's ability to combine a dynamic adventure story with biblical truth has captivated the minds and hearts of children and adults for centuries. Only a few of the illustrations are action-oriented, and none are particularly dark or scary for sensitive young readers. If you want your kids to take proper biblical values from this book, you have to do a lot of paraphrasing. So, then I looked at John Bunyan's original and I understood why - it's almost as unreadable (for pleasure) as Shakespeare.

Forms, certificates, flags, DVDs, CDs, computer software, stickers, stars and charts are not refundable. It’s both a simple adventure story and a profound allegory of the Christian journey through life, a delightful read with a message kids ages 6 to 12 can understand and remember. It preserves the original plotlines of Bunyan's classic while telling the story of Little Christian and Christiana in a way that kids can understand. Think Beatrix Potter-type English) it would be difficult for children aged 5 and younger to listen to this book, most likely. Not simply a great story but an amazing way to have deep conversations about Heaven, the gospel, and our pilgrimage here on earth. Bottom line … I love the illustrations and the core of the message is still excellent, but the change in relationships was too much for me to get used to.
