About this deal

Thank you to Kensington Books and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I didn't mind knowing what happened to Daisy before the end of the book, I found that it worked for this story. Perfect for fans of Cara Hunter, Linda Green, Laura Marshall, Amy Lloyd, Linda Green, and Claire Allan. She used goes to reason where I'd have used stands to reason, born was used and not borne and the second a wasn't needed here-"She'd had a few a blips" and purposely was used and not purposefully.

The setting of the small Island gives a slightly claustrophobic feel to the story and as a regular visitor, I could easily visualise the locations mentioned. This is a strong psychological thriller based on a dysfunctional family with twisted relationships and lots of secrets that makes it a must read for all mystery lovers.

I want to feel more, but I can’t, my senses deadened by the impact of the fall, my thoughts and emotions slow to respond.

Jonah finds himself torn between giving his best to this case and his job and doing his best to care for his family. It also makes each devastating new bombshell that Isabel Ashdown throws in all the more explosive and unexpected. For me, Daisy’s disappearance wasn’t the main focus of the plot, but a tool used to show the relationships within this family, particularly that of the two sisters, Emily and Jess.

Just when you think you have worked it out, another curve ball appears to throw you off balance and those doubts reappear. As we leave the clean light of the kitchen and pass through the dining room, I glance back at Emily and James, now seated around the family table with two other officers, a photograph of Daisy placed starkly in the space between them. This definitely wasn’t a gripping thriller for me, and the small ‘twist’ at the end was extremely anticlimactic.

The twists and turns made me very unsure of the way things were going which compelled me to read to the end. I love this authors books and this was one of her back stories I couldn’t get to while books for tours. You do not have to read the others to enjoy this one, but I recommend doing so since they are excellent books and provide some interesting background on the main character. Marlowe realises that he cannot touch Dolores without destroying Mavis and her career and leaves, only to see Lagardie heading up to her room.

The heroine, who is willing to sacrifice herself and whom Marlowe ultimately rescues, is the jaded Hollywood starlet, Mavis Weld. Everything you tell me will be followed up on, and we can save a lot of time if you can resist the urge to make up what you don’t know.

We’re in the living room, an open doorway separating me and my traumatised sister, and the woman is looking at me for a response.
