About this deal

As I breathed in it was searing my lungs, a bit like trying to breathe in over a boiling kettle, I was lying on the floor in a puddle of steaming water trying to find some cooler air. There wasn't really a description of the places he has been - I think everything I could imagine was because I've seen some of the pictures of the events on TV. In this gripping and informative book, former firefighter Edric Kennedy-Macfoy describes what it’s like to be part of London Fire Brigade and the personal factors which made him join… and leave. By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions.

His use of the well placed historic and contemporary images adds so much to the selected stories and articals from a former fire service magazine. I was completely disgusted to read about the treatment of Edric by the police, I get they were under pressure but that is no way to treat a person and is certainly not justice.Albania, Algeria, American Samoa, Andorra, Angola, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Armenia, Aruba, Australia, Bahamas, Bahrain, Barbados, Belgium, Belize, Benin, Bermuda, Bhutan, Bolivia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Botswana, Brazil, British Virgin Islands, Bulgaria, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Canada, Cape Verde Islands, Cayman Islands, Central African Republic, Chad, Chile, China, Colombia, Comoros, Cook Islands, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Democratic Republic of the Congo, Denmark, Djibouti, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Estonia, Ethiopia, European Union, Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas), Finland, France, French Guiana, French Polynesia, Gabon Republic, Gambia, Ghana, Gibraltar, Greece, Greenland, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guam, Guatemala, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Kiribati, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Latvia, Lebanon, Lesotho, Liberia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macau, Macedonia, Madagascar, Malawi, Malaysia, Mali, Malta, Marshall Islands, Martinique, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mayotte, Mexico, Micronesia, Moldova, Monaco, Mongolia, Montenegro, Montserrat, Morocco, Namibia, Nepal, Netherlands, Netherlands Antilles, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Niger, Niue, Norway, Oman, Pakistan, Palau, Panama, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Qatar, Republic of Croatia, Republic of the Congo, Reunion, Romania, Saint Helena, Saint Kitts-Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Serbia, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Solomon Islands, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sri Lanka, Suriname, Svalbard and Jan Mayen, Swaziland, Sweden, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Thailand, Togo, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Turks and Caicos Islands, Tuvalu, Uganda, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Uzbekistan, Vanuatu, Vatican City State, Venezuela, Virgin Islands (U. Read more about the condition Very Good: A book that has been read and does not look new, but is in excellent condition. While the book offers vivid first-hand accounts of what it was like for Stephen to tackle ferocious fires up close, it also offers a wider perspective on the sheer complexity of organising the service and its multitude of functions.

Standing on the third-floor landing, with the smoke forcing its way down to meet him, was not the place to be. But I think that he handled everything very good and that in the end he was diagnosed PTSD doesn't surprise me. I found it interesting learning about his background, about his thoughts and emotions in certain situations and his passion for the job shine through. Edric Kennedy-Macfoy has spent over a decade serving in the London Fire Brigade, attending many of the capital's biggest incidents, from the blaze at Grenfell Tower to the Croydon tram derailment. Steve is a regular contributor to a number of International Fire Service publications and was the editor of the British Fire Service Association magazine 'The Journal'.The cover may have some limited signs of wear but the pages are clean, intact and the spine remains undamaged. The fact that he speaks little of good working relationships and friendships during his time at LFB and any off his many other workplaces shows that he was not a team player and everything was all about himself. Blue flashing lights and bright headlamps cleared what little traffic there was on the road that time of night. The book ends a year after Grenfell when Kennedy-Macfoy decided to quit his career as a firefighter.

I briefly explained this to Joanne, but having known me for a good few years now, she just rolled her eyes in resignation and carried on sun bathing. A fantastic book from start to finish, documenting Steve’s career from the early days right up to his retirement in 2018.A good mixture of anecdote and education - although I did find that during some of the more technical aspects (particularly discussing risk assessments etc) I began to glaze over a bit. I buried my head a little lower and held on for dear life as Dave worked the jet around the large hallway, extinguishing the burning contents. They are the person next door… They are like you and me with warts and worries and unfulfilled dreams. This is covered extensively in my book London Firefighter and having visited Gran Canaria this past week I decided to revisit the story and the scene of the battle.

I checked my messages and found nothing particularly interesting, then switched to my internet browser and a news site. It was hard to read sometimes because there were very sad things in it,I don’t think any of us will ever forget Grenfell Tower and obviously there were other stories from his job too. There were only three fire engines and about a dozen firefighters, some clad only in shirt sleeves at an incident that I estimated would have attracted 8 pumps back in London.Telling of his experiences at the Grenfell Tower Fire (episode 1) and Film crews followed him on his day-to-day duties as a Borough Commander (episode 2).
