I was in grade 6 at school (age 11) when my friend in grade 7 told me they were reading this book in class.

While reading this book, I experienced rushes and throbbing through my head at all the excitement, thrill, and suspense. After getting back to their home, Fang decides to permanently leave the group and start his own Flock.Hawk/Phoenix: the daughter of Max and Fang and the protagonist of the books Hawk and City of the Dead. Shortly after they arrive outside, Erasers come and attack them, resulting in Angel getting kidnapped.

Her family brave a journey to blazing hot Death Valley, CA, to save Angel, but soon enough, they find themselves in yet another nightmare—this one involving fighting off the half-human, half-wolf “Erasers” in New York City. Their plan goes awry when Gazzy fails to disarm all the bombs under the gathering spot, and the bombs explode while Fang, Gazzy, and Angel are still in the blast radius. Max struggles to keep her flock together, discover her destiny, and save the world while she's at it. Booklist described it as "an action-packed cross between Gertrude Chandler Warner's Boxcar Children and Marvel Comics' X-Men", also noting how "Patterson occasionally forgets his audience here, as evidenced by his sardonic tone and such glib adult asides".Finding their parents would be a nice bonus, too, if only the whitecoats would stop trying to kill them. This is the third novel of James Patterson's that I have read and I can tell you now it won't be the last. Fang and Nudge begin flying around to find food and look for signs of Max, but stop in Tipisco to look for Nudge’s mother. As a result, they decide to go to New York to find the Institute for Higher Living, where they can find more files.
