About this deal

While I enjoyed this book and found some good tips, I liked the previous book in the series, THE HEART TO START, even more. Restorative things are productive: Given this struggle between your prefrontal cortex and amygdala, and the fact that your prefrontal cortex is so easily fatigued, it should be no surprise that rest is important to using your mind effectively.

In the scenario I described above, my energy is more attuned with the Administrate state at that 4:00 hour, which is "taking care of details that make your creative work possible. As I mentioned at poing 1 for the productivity advice I would give 5 stars - despite in some points its more good collection (and connection) which was already said in other forms. Throughout the process, I began to codify the different types of work required to produce my writing. The author shows how he developed systems and hacks to increase his productivity while working on creative projects. As a result, if we can structure our time to take advantage of these differences we may see exponential results. Mind Management, Not Time Management: Productivity When Creativity Matters is a gripping blend of inspiring insights and actionable practices that will make you want to grab pen and paper, put your fingers to strings, or start in on a blank canvas. Other examples of this include building the financial model in Excel, creating a lesson plan, or crafting a sales narrative.

A few of the other things David helps us with in this book: Creative Cycles, Creative Systems, our Creative Sweet Spot, nourishing our interior Passive Genius, and other useful tools and paragigms that all work together. At points, it felt like a privileged person’s obsession with creating the perfect system to nurture and replenish creativity. Técnicamente si escribieras todos los días, por una hora, durante todo el año, habrías terminado tu libro; si escribieras dos horas al día, lo tendrías en medio año…y así sucesivamente.

Instead of banging your head against it, attempting to focus your way into a solution… give your brain something to chew on and explore, then let your “Passive Genius” work on it.

Finally, Kadavy explains how to leverage the power of Creative Cycles and how to develop Creative Systems that are repeatable and applicable to any of your current and future projects. It's interesting how whatever you focus on in an attempt to maximize it has a tendency to slip away, as Viktor Frankl would say. We can build our lives, or at least our work or creative lives, around respecting these four stages by understanding the Seven Mental States of Creative Work, and matching what stage we want to be in with our mental state, or use our mental state to pursue the appropriate stage. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. In a tweet shortly after publication, the author showed an example of how he categorizes his tasks in his task manager, using labels, by each type of mental state. Procrastination does in fact arise from the failure to make a project clear, which simple steps can overcome, but it can also come from a deep rooted fear linked to a childhood trauma. The really tough part is that your amygdala communicates with your body even before the rest of your brain (which can handle much more complex thinking).

But I didn't plan that a co-worker would identify a problem that they wanted my help to solve, requiring 35 minutes of listening intently and talking through various dimensions of the problem. And Kadavy, an author and podcaster whose background is software design, doesn’t work within an organization that has a claim on his time. However, what if the secret to true productivity and success lies not in time management, but in something even more powerful—mind management? For example, if you see a snake, your amygdala tells your sympathetic nervous system to increase your heart rate before your eyes can even tell your brain “this is a snake. I give this book 5 stars not only for the unique angle of the subject matter, but also for Kadavy's thorough exploration, systems development, and personal experience spread throughout. No funcionamos igual a lo largo del día, y cada persona tiene sus picos mentales en distintos momentos del día.
