Bowie himself wraps all of it together with a voiceover narration that Morgen, who also edited the film, pieced together from audio interviews and personal recordings. As a big Bowie fan I would obviously enjoy the DVD, which I did although I don't think it's good enough to warrant 5 stars. In his commentary, Brett Morgen primarily discusses his methodology in making the film and how he went about trying to create a “cinematic interpretation of Bowie.

He is able to keep viewers engaged with this huge spectacle coupled with Bowie's original music by distilling Bowie down to his aura and essence giving the viewers the purest form of his artistry. The Bowie that emerges through his own words, images, and performances in Morgen’s film is of an artist who knew exactly who he was and stayed true to his all-encompassing vision of life. From his early musical beginnings in 1962 through his posthumous releases, and concert footage, Bowie's influence, and influences are captured superbly. The resulting film features narration in Bowie's own voice as the story presents how he crafted his multidisciplinary artistry, working not only in music and film but also in painting, dance, sculpture, theater, video and audio collage, screenwriting, and acting.
