He mentioned this to Harry Potter when Oliver was in his fifth year, as Harry was nervous for his first Quidditch match. He made the team continue to practice through stormy Saturday afternoons as October came to a close. From the very beginning Oliver Wood seems to be that kid who likes his one school hobby or activity a little more intensely than everyone else. Oliver tried to appeal to McGonagall, telling her that having the Firebolt would greatly enhance their chances of winning the Quidditch Cup. Gryffindor won their first match of the season against Slytherin, but the unexplained attacks on Muggle-born students (later found to be caused by the reopening of the Chamber of Secrets and the freeing of the monster within) forced the cancellation of the year's remaining matches.

He also attended Hogwarts with Charlie Weasley and Hufflepuff Nymphadora Tonks for four years before they graduated. It is a shame, though, because if nothing else, we do wish we could have seen more of Sean Biggerstaff on-screen in that dashing turtleneck sweater. They played in the heavy rain and lightning for ages, while Harry struggled to see clear enough to get the Snitch.

He later became a professional Quidditch player for Puddlemere United's reserve team on the position of Keeper, showing him to have been an excellent and highly accomplished broomstick flyer. That September, he woke Harry and the team up very early the first Saturday for their first Quidditch practice of the year. In rare cases, they may have very slight scratches on the packaging due to warehousing / storage and transport. Harry was in the hospital wing after facing Professor Quirrell and Lord Voldemort, and recovering the Philosopher's Stone.Stunned, he goes to share it with his nighttime pals but they are asleep and the daytime creatures ignore him.

Oliver gave Harry his first Quidditch lesson in private, immediately seeing that Harry was a natural flyer on a broomstick. He was upset when Fred suggested it would be easy, because he didn't think everyone was taking the situation seriously enough. Harry thinks to himself that with Angelina Johnson as team Captain, pep talks are not likely to be as long as they were when Oliver Wood had been Captain. Taking a moment to regain control of himself after admitting that they lost the Gryffindor cup the previous year only because Harry Potter was unconscious in the hospital Wing, Oliver made it clear that this year they would put all of these new theories into practice so that there would be no opportunity to lose.

Oliver insisted on team practices every night after dinner, and in doing so, the training sessions were getting better.
