About this deal

The first appearance of the Skarloey Railway and its engines, Mr. Percival's first speaking role and the first time he is referred to by name since the twelfth series episode, Push Me, Pull You. It also marks the Skarloey Railway engines' first appearances in CGI. According to Sam Barlow, the film originally had some scenes which were deemed too scary for children and Diesel 10 would have been voiced by Rupert Degas. Paxton can see Ulfstead Castle from the top of Knapford Iron Bridge but it is located south of Knapford and the castle is on Ulfstead Branch Line.

James' first major speaking role since the fifteenth series episode, James to the Rescue. It also marks his first speaking role in a special since Hero of the Rails in the Japanese dub. The last special produced by HiT Entertainment under ownership of Apax Partners, as they sold HiT to Mattel on 1 February 2012 after the special was produced. The "Learn About Standard and Narrow Gauge Engines" segment on the DVD/Blu-ray release marks the first mention of the Culdee Fell Railway in the television series. Soon the steam and diesel engines work together to restore the Dieselworks. At the opening, the Fat Controller says that the new Dieselworks is special because it shows what happens when Really Useful Engines work together and that he is very proud of all of his engines. Percy rolls up beside Thomas and tells him that he feels proud and special when he is with him and Thomas says the same thing. The two best friends laugh together. Series 21 - Springtime for Diesel, Dowager Hatt's Busy Day ( cameo), The Big Freeze and Daisy's Perfect Christmas

Series 16 - Percy and the Monster of Brendam, Thomas and the Rubbish Train, Bust My Buffers!, Percy and the Calliope and Emily's Winter Party Special ( cameo) In the Latin American, Brazilian Portuguese and French dubs, Victor's first language is Greek instead of Spanish. Daisy | BoCo | Bear | The Works Diesel | Pip | Emma | Diesel | Derek | 'Arry and Bert | Diesel 10 | Salty | Dennis | Den | Dart | Paxton | Norman | Sidney | Philip One day at Arlesburgh, Diesel bumps into Daisy while she is getting ready for refuelling. Daisy crossly tells Diesel that the bumping could be bad for her swerves and springs, but Diesel just ignores her.

James and Phillip almost crashing into each other is similar to Gordon almost crashing into Percy in the first series episode, Percy Runs Away, and Emily almost crashing into Toby in the twenty-first series episode, The Big Freeze. Despite his devious and malicious nature, Diesel is shown to be nice and caring towards children, (a side that is never present when it comes to other engines) even feeling guilty for making them upset when he did not bring the roof tiles for the school roof and owning up for his mistakes which made them happy when he finally brought the tiles. In the original Korean dub, the singers for Working Together and the Blue Mountain Mystery song were credited in the cinematic release, but strangely, they were not in the VOD release. Not counting deleted scenes, the fifth series is the only series that Diesel does not appear in after his introduction in the second series, Series 21 - Springtime for Diesel, A Most Singular Engine ( cameo), Dowager Hatt's Busy Day ( cameo), Philip's Number, The Big Freeze and Confused Coaches ( cameo) Diesel has travelled at well over his basis' top speed of 15 miles per hour on numerous occasions in the television series.

Paxton is based on a British Rail (BR) Class 08 diesel-electric shunter. In the real world, BR Class 08s were in fact the most successful shunting engines in the world with 996 of them built. Over seventy of them are preserved by heritage railways, such as the Dean Forest Railway and museums, such as the National Railway Museum. Around one-hundred BR Class 08s also remain in service on the national rail network. On streaming platforms, an instrumental piece of the song Day of the Diesels plays after the ending credits. When the steam engines tell Gordon and James about the diesels' takeover, Edward's wheels suddenly stop moving. The events of this special are mentioned by Luke in the seventeenth series episode, Luke's New Friend and by Ben and Timothy in Big World! Big Adventures! during the song Where in the World is Thomas? At the Dieselworks, the workers cannot find the required parts to fix Daisy. Mavis tells 'Arry and Bert that Den and Dart say she may have to be scrapped, horrifying them. They tell Diesel, but he again thinks that they are blaming him. Later at a level crossing, Paxton arrives to tell Diesel about the rumours, but this time Diesel has had enough.
