The quality of the output HDMI when the input is RCA seems to be much better quality and better color. With the RCA input, the HDMI output stretches the image wider (16:9) than the source (4:3) but the resulting video is in the correct aspect ratio. As I want the best quality for my home movies, I don't think the 720 mode is sufficient for me even if the source is smaller (VGA / 480p). It is disheartening to see the HDMI output preview at a slightly better quality than the outputted video when all that needs to be done is just switch it to record in 1080, but it can't.
