About this deal

Babbel —For a limited time, FML listeners can get 55% off your Babbel subscription when you go to Babbel.com/FML A year and a half into our marriage, I found out my husband had been having an affair with a 19-year-old for six months. I filed for divorce and left. Let’s talk about the writing too. I get that she is not an author by trade, but seriously she should have hired a ghost writer or someone to edit the book beforehand. Because it is cringe worthy. It literally is a step by step account of her days traveling, but worse than a journal. It was all very, and then we did this, and then we did that, and then he said this, and then I ate that. There was no character development. In fact she would drop a friend’s name as if we are supposed to know who they are. But never introduced them into the book.

While Stone developed a career as a writer, actor, dancer, and director, her second act brought the most fame. Gabrielle Stone became a celebrity because of the twists and turns of her real life, which even the best scriptwriter couldn’t dream up. I’m not sure we needed the play-by-play texts or the “insight” into the guys she banged. But again, you do you. It definitely felt like a story your friend tells you over brunch; it just went on way too long. It also is super weird how little she talks about her ex other than his cheating. The entire book was about Javier which, is beyond insane since you “dated” a month, meanwhile you were married for 2 years and together for 5.

More Biography

If you don’t want to feel emotion for a woman who wants to make sense of her life, this book is not for you. Essentially, it’s a diary about getting over heartbreak. It sounds like it was written by a teenager, and very little effort is put into describing anything besides how fat the author is getting, how the hot guys are who keep hitting on her, and how in love she is with her ex. Instead of staying home heartbroken, Stone decided to travel through Europe alone and turn the lessons learned into a popular book.

First: this woman is delusional. She keeps saying she’s a famous actress but I had to google her and she barely scratches the surface of D movies. I will give you just one example of the quality of writing in this book. Admittedly it is the worst line in the book, but why in the name of all that is literary would she leave this line in the book instead of edit it out? She is describing what sounds like an absolutely magical nightclub in Paris which is in an aquarium. A wall of glass stretches across most of the length of the club, and they have a woman dressed as a mermaid dive in periodically and swim with all the other sea creatures. Gabrielle's description of the club? Gabrielle Stone grew up as the daughter of a “scream queen,” or actress starring in horror movies. Stone’s mother, Dee Wallace, is best known as the mom character in the famous Steven Spielberg movie ET.Gabrielle Stone was born in 1988 in Los Angeles, California which makes her a woman in her early 30s during the early 2020s. What does FML mean? What does a woman do when her life has fallen apart and her heart has been ripped out and stepped on twice in two months? She goes on a wild adventure, makes some bad decisions, and does a sh*t load of soul searching. But most importantly? She finds out how to love . . . herself. Stone’s trademark straightforward style grabs your attention and fills you with confidence. Be prepared for some tough love and straight talk from Stone. While the topics are tough and Stone never flinches, the end goal is knowing yourself and following your dreams. The only person worse than her is Javier. He literally professes his love for her and then ditches her within a month. They’re both flighty, superficial, ridiculous, immature people who cannot operate even the most basic of relationships. Maybe I’ve just been exposed to unnaturally fascinating people in my life, but I cannot find anything remotely enjoyable in any single character in this book. Who is Javier in Eat Pray #FML? Javier is ( supposedly, according to the internet) actor Ignacio Serricchio, which was super easy to find online (though obviously, I don’t know this for certain, this is just what I saw online, so this could be wrong). Gabrielle seems really immature, putting his trauma and grief about the loss of his brother out there so publically as a vehicle for her own journey. I would frankly be pissed if I were anyone associated with Gabrielle, as she seems remarkably indifferent to anyone else but herself.

Stone married at a young age into what she thought was a happy, lifelong union. Unfortunately, Stone’s husband unceremoniously divorced the multi-hyphenate performer, leaving her once again in a state of grief. The more I read the book, the more I hated the author. She seemed very shallow and obsessed with herself. She made multiple comments throughout the book about how all these men thought she was beautiful, incredible, cute. Like she needed her ego stroked? But she was still pining over Javier! I also felt like she was looking for sympathy. Each new person that she introduced to the book, she told them her story of her ex husband and Javier. Each person of course expressed sorrow yet told her how amazing she is and how much an idiot they both were. Like I said, she obviously had insecurities and needed reassurance constantly. But to continuously read the same thing over and over again was tiresome. The way the book was written makes you feel like you are standing in the author's shoes and living the experience yourself. Gabrielle captured the emotional rollercoaster of relationships, solo travel, and discovering yourself and she bares her soul in this book.I am also a big fan of humor books (Dave Barry is my all-time favorite humor writer, and Calvin and Hobbes and Bloom County are favorite comic strips). So when I saw the title of this book, I just had to give it a try. A year and a half into our marriage, I found out my husband had been having an affair with a nineteen-year-old for six months. I filed for divorce and left. Just like book #1, there’s many MANY mentions to her celebrity outings, the fact that she “works in the industry”, and let’s not forget the countless glowing remarks from everyone in her life. It’s exhausting
