About this deal

A woody fire on the beach' is how this has been described before and it is definitely what drew me to sample it in the first place. I like woody scents, in fact I think now that my nose is more trained, I can safely say that I like vetiver, patchouli, cedarwood and sandalwood. This fragrance has all of the above and without a doubt vetiver is in the heart, in the opening and the base. What I love about vetiver is its versatility. The fragrance won’t become cloying during the summer and it can be pulled off during the spring and summer. This isn't Sexy/Sensual in any way shape or form, this isn't trying to attract attention because of some note that just is super appealing; This is to me surgical/tactical, it's someone who is calculating with their Wardrobe, with their thought process, with how they handle people and money. This is upper class in a bottle (imo) because a person who wears this isn't trying to impress ppl with how they smell because they are already someone ppl look up to, this is memorable for sure though; when you smell this you will know exactly what it is and who's wearing it. It makes memories imo in a way that's so different than other Designer perfumes.

Sycomore enhances the most beautiful aspects of the pure vetiver extract, but adds a particular Chanel chicness to make it into an utterly wearable work of art. Longevity is great for an EDT, I do a few replenishments throughout the day but I would do that with most EDT’s. I really enjoy it sprayed on clothes (particularly wool & cashmere). Lalique Encre Noire A L’Extreme is a scent that pretends to be a stronger and denser version than its originator, yet ends up being the more wearable one. It is perfectly pleasant, and irresistible. There isn’t a single unpleasant element in it. Every molecule that enters your nose is aimed straight for the pleasure centers of your brain, and for the higher levels of your imagination. There is nothing carnal or wild about it. It makes you think of being a better man, and having a better, quieter, more meaningful life. Comme des Garcons Wonderwood – a woody fragrance for men released in 2010. The main notes include Sandalwood, Cedar, and Cypress. It is a moderate-lasting perfume with average projection.

In terms of performance, ENALE seems to last most of the day, though projection is no more than moderate, at least in the dosages that I apply. Which is how I like it. BTW, I have to say that I love the flacon, too. It really does look kind of like a square ink bottle sitting on my desk, and the chunky, weighty glass is satisfying to heft in the hand. Like many of the cheaper (but periodically amazing) middle eastern clone houses, I’m finding that sometimes, our dollar buys more than just a brand: rather, we pay for consistency and predictability of product. And the outliers can be rough. If you want something similar but lighter, get Terre d'Hermes - it's basically a pop version of the same smell, with the incense toned down, at the price of smelling maybe a bit less natural and more chemical. Terre smells like Encre Noir after a few hours after application.

Similar: Many fragrances incorporate tobacco as the main tone, but not too many include tobacco and incense. These are some examples (by no means comparable to Sycomore, they are better and worse in their own ways): Amouage Memoir Men Eau De Parfum is a good example; Thierry Mugler A*Men Pure Havana is a tobacco masterpiece; Xerjoff Casamorati 1861 Naxos includes incense and is another niche gem for fragrance connoisseurs; Guerlain L’Homme Ideal Eau De Parfum is a designer that includes incense for a more mass appeal fragrance. Thank you, Chanel, for Sycomore. As someone who likes earthy, woody frags it's a gamble to find ones that aren't overly masculine. Initially, Sycomore is quite masculine, then veers more feminine.

It is truly not easy to like this fragrance, let alone understand it (which I probably still do not). But it is truly intriguing and holds a certain mystique that I have not experienced before in the world of perfumes. The flacon for itself is very beautiful and successful, only somehow the DNA does not fit the color scheme. The color indigo I simply do not associate with the fragrance. Felt this bottle would rather fit a dark, maritime perfume.
