Further events as part of Derry Halloween will also be taking place in Strabane and Donegal, including a Halloween Hay Trail, fireworks display, and more. The trip also includes a ‘Warriors and Hurlers Workshop’ where younger visitors will learn more about the story of Setanta. It was the Irish emigrants who brought the old traditions of Samhain with them to America in the 19 th century. Hurloween Tours’ at Croke Park are ideal for families looking for seasonal fun rather than scares. This autumnal tour series is suitable for children aged between five and twelve, accompanied by an adult.
The festival ceremonies officially commence with the Arrival of the Spirits Samhain Procession on Saturday 29th October through the eerie dark streets of Trim, making its way to Trim Castle where the entertainment continues. The illuminated procession will be a sight to behold with large-scale processional pieces, music, fire, and performances. Spectators are invited to celebrate the Samhain Spirits and create their own masks, with dressing up highly encouraged. It was seen as the division of the earth’s year, going from summer to the much darker winter months.Working in partnership with Irish and international artists, seanchaí storytellers, and the local community Púca will showcase the best in contemporary Irish music, spectacle, and performance.
It takes place at 10.30am, 12.30pm and 14.30pm from Saturday, October 29th to Friday, November 4th. On Saturday, October there is Samhain Family Festival which will allow visitors to become fully immersed Halloween experience with a range of workshops including Pimpin' Pumpkins and Transformin's Turnips. Music, storytelling, chilling installations, and more will await those to dare to visit the City of Derry during their Halloween event.Watch as hundreds of local performers participate in the city’s most popular parade, bringing the story of Halloween together in the form of magic displays and more.
