About this deal

No matter how well-designed or powerful a chainsaw may be, this doesn’t mean anything unless that chainsaw is also easy and convenient to use. Fortunately, this ParkerBrand chainsaw couldn’t have been more comfortable to handle, even for long periods of time. The cable length is around 4m, but you should get a suitable extension lead for ease of movement and flexibility. The high-efficiency brushless motor delivers improved performance and extended run time, while the automatic oiling system keeps the chain lubricated and reduces maintenance.

With a 25cm bar, and a 24cm x 29cm body, this is one of the most compact petrol chainsaws available, and in addition, it is quite lightweight; weighing a little over 5kg. This smaller size and weight have made this product a very popular choice for our female customers and people smaller in stature. Starting a chainsaw can sometimes be a frustrating process, so I was delighted to find that this chainsaw started first time every time, no matter whether it was warm or cold. That said, I did still press the priming bubble before turning the chainsaw on – it didn’t seem to push the petrol through properly, but, thankfully, this didn’t really matter since the chainsaw was so easy to get going.

Chainsaw trousers: also known as chaps or chainsaw leggings, they are made of multiple protective layers to keep your legs protected against the sharp saw. Chainsaw Boots: you need a pair of steel-toed boots to protect your feet from heavy pieces of wood that might fall on them. The integrated chain brake also provides an extra level of safety when working with this chainsaw. Additionally, the clever design of the CS1400 means that there is no need for any tools to tension the chain – you can do it all with just your hands!

In our final spot is a slightly more compact cordless chainsaw, which costs lower end and is by a relatively unknown brand, is still a powerful enough saw and has a blade length of 30cm! I was fairly surprised by this and so I had to try it out, and whilst it doesn’t have the power capability of the Ryobi, its still good quality and performs well enough to cut wood efficiently and with power. For a start, at 4.7kg it is comparatively lightweight and this allows you to wield it for longer without feeling fatigued. What weight there is, is also well distributed and this adds up to a petrol chainsaw that is easier to handle than most. When compared to the Parker brand 62cc model, this Husqvarna has less vibration, and runs quieter. I also noticed that it was a little better when it came to fuel consumption too, but that is to be expected with a smaller sized engine. The 38cc air injected engine on this petrol chainsaw produces 2HP, which is a decent amount of power for a smaller model, and is more than enough for most light gardening cutting. I wouldn’t even attempt to use it for larger logs and more heavy-duty work, but that’s fine as this product’s isn’t designed for that, unlike its big brother which is also featured further down this list. It sits as beautifully in our range as it will in your shed or workshop. The 45cc engine is thorough bred ParkerBrand and has the power to get through a wide range of domestic tasks. It’s the all-rounder you’ve been asking for. It comes with a 16-inch bar as standard, although it can be changed if you wish, and is perfect for getting winter firewood cut down to size, easily coping with the small to medium logs. It’s great for smaller branches and a wide range of jobs about the garden. It’s a lightweight chainsaw; it weighs around 4,9 kilograms. Plus, thanks to its good built balance, it feels even lighter. While we invest a great deal of time designing tools that are robust and made to a high standard, like all machines, at times they do fail and we like to make things straight forward and easy for you to understand. It costs a bit more than other petrol chainsaws in this list but it comes with a 3 year warranty and is made to last, so the investment would be worth it if you want power and reliability – I actually really like the petrol lawn mowers I’ve tested in their range too. The enhanced design features a modern automatic chain lubrication system to extend the life of each blade and guarantee optimal performance every time you use it. The solid 3.1 HP (2.3kW) 2 stroke, air cooled engine is both high-powered and fuel efficient for increased performance without the added running costs. The anti-vibration system, front-mounted tensioner and dynamic chain brake provide hours of use without discomfort, putting you in complete control whilst ensuring your safety. There’s not really a lot more to say than that, it is an extremely cheap electric chainsaw, it does the job but it’s not the best in the market. If you’re willing to spend that little bit more money then you’re going to get a lot better quality. And let’s be fair, it clearly obviously beats using a bow saw.

This is still going strong a couple of years later and I couldn’t be happier really. I can’t give it top spot as I am a massive fan of it’s direct competitor the Hyundai petrol chainsaw. That said, this is easily the closest rival followed closely by the BU-KO. You should get anywhere between 45 to 1 hour of continuous usage time, depending on the batteries you use. If you’re just cutting branches a few times a year, then an electric chainsaw is a good choice. They are lightweight and usually cost less than their petrol counterpart. They’re easy to start – just plug it in and press the trigger. The downside of corded electric chainsaws is their mobility – you will need a power outlet nearby. I started by using the chainsaw on some smaller branches and it whizzed through them in no time, so I then moved on to the larger trunks. Its 20” bar gives it the capability to cut through trunks that are roughly 40” in diameter if you do a cut on each side, so I was able to slice through even the largest of the mature trees that had toppled during Storm Arwen. If you asked me to name some negatives I’d really be struggling. The biggest issue for me of course is always carrying around the power lead with me. Carrying the cable extension lead becomes cumbersome and difficult. Especially if there’s prolonged use. But then, as we’ve already discussed, if you’ve got a lot of work to do then you are probably going to be better off with a petrol chainsaw. The electric chainsaw isn’t designed to be used all day. It’s designed for a little bit of cutting here and there.
