About this deal

I have been debating on what to rate this one and settled on a 3.5. Don't let that put you off this book, because I enjoyed it. I just had a few too many little niggles with it to give it a higher rating. This isn't the first book I've read that uses cellular memory as a plot point, and I find the idea of it quite fascinating. This book dealt with it in a very different way than the others I've read. Look up cellular memory with transplant patients if you're curious! It's the idea of people that have received an organ transplant changing habits, tastes, sexuality, and even blood types! The author actually references some real reported instances in this story. You don't have to believe it, but it's interesting reading all the same. Eclipso: The Darkness Within was a 1992 comic book miniseries and crossover storyline published by DC Comics. It featured the heroes of the DC Universe fighting against Eclipso. Issue #1 debuted July 1992, and was created and co-plotted by Robert Loren Fleming and Keith Giffen. Keith Giffen also did pencil layouts for the series, and Bart Sears provided the finished artwork.

I remember a film where someone's hand was transplanted onto someone else's arm, it took on the form of this evil person who once owned it.

About This Game

I really enjoyed this and found that I was so engrossed in the story that I had finished it before I knew it. Some great mystery writing but also Jessica handles writing about grief and depression in very interesting ways with such awareness and decency. I was really impressed with how she handled the guilt and depression that each of the characters dealt with in their own ways and with their own chapters explaining how it feeds off them, I just couldn’t put it down! It’s impossible to second guess what will happen. As the story unfolds, the reader is pulled deeper and deeper in and some of the scenes will leave you reeling. Each of them suffers from different forms of mental health problems after his death - sleep paralysis, depression, insomnia, anger issues, agoraphobia to name a few.

Finsternis im Inneren (DE), Beltz & Gelberg (hardcover), 21 July 2021, translated by Friederike Levin [7] Finsternis im Inneren (DE), Beltz & Gelberg (audiobook), 4 October 2022, translated by Friederike Levin, narrated by Claudia Gräf [12]What would you do, what would you risk to make the fear stop? What would you do to protect friends who became strangers? TW: suicide, child abuse, death of a child, early labour, death of a baby, adultery, alcoholism, and mental health.

Twenty years later, Amber no longer speaks to her friends and is still haunted by that day in the form of severe psychological issues, including sleep paralysis, insomnia and hallucinations of a terrifying entity she calls The Creature. The Darkness Within tells a compelling story of Jacob, a man who receives a heart transplant, only to take on the personality of the organ donor. This wouldn’t be so bad if his donor were a philanthropist or a priest, but no, he was a criminal and girlfriend beater rife with personality traits nobody would want. The book is fast paced, and I read it all in one sitting. I did find that I had a hard time getting into the heads of the characters, which might be because the story is told in third person. I would have liked to have experienced the emotions as the characters felt them, especially since this is a book that is so insanely dark. How does Rosie feel after Shane disappears? She is both frightened and relieved, but I don’t feel like those emotions are conveyed in the writing. However, as the novel progressed, I started to get heavily invested in the characters and the decisions they made. But this story is definitely more plot-driven. Millennia ago, a glowing red meteor fell to Earth, bringing with it an evil creature, who called to humans with the promise of wealth and power. But the Natives proved too strong of character to its urgings. They crafted a spear-head from the meteor, hoping to slay the beast. Unfortunately, before the deed could be done, the creature called out to men across the sea to Europe, bringing those who desire greed. One such was C.F. Volpehart, who killed the Native warrior carrying the spear and took it. Under the creature's influence, Volpehart gained a vast financial empire and influenced the rise of Wall Street around the Volpehart Building. The creature, the old man explains, still lives under the building. My favourite part of the story (don’t judge me for nerding out), was when Elizabeth, Jacob’s mother, researches cellular memory. My heart swelled when she critically evaluated the studies she was reading, looking at sample size and other aspects of the methods (the librarian in me was sooo happy). I also had no idea that the book was going to be about cellular memory, which was a pleasant surprise (I thought they might go the possession route, especially since the father is a reverend. To be honest, I’m a little surprised that his father didn’t think there might be demonic interference. He did compare his son to the devil when he saw that not-so-subtle Photoshopped photo of his son and Satan morphed into one. It just would have been interesting to see that internal struggle--faith vs. science). Cellular memory is a fascinating pseudoscience, and the book effectively introduced this concept in a unique and intriguing way. That said, I do have a few (additional) criticisms of the story and its execution. Now, cellular memory really is a thing and there are real life documented cases but here it is a VERY extreme reaction that Jacob has following his heart transplant and it’s not just his taste in food or music that has changed. It becomes very clear quite early on that the Jacob who comes around after his operation is a very different person to the one before. And Lisa Stone handles this marked change perfectly as she gradually reveals more layers of Jacobs personality, his parents desperately try to understand what has happened to their previously hard working, mild mannered son.I received a gifted advance reader copy of this book to read as part of the book tour hosted by Lovebookstours in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Netgalley and Avon Books for a copy of this book. I have not read any books by Cathy Glass (Lisa Stone is a Pseudonym) I wanted to read this purely from the description. Sadly, I am pleased that I didn't pay for the book and that I am reviewing it for Netgalley for free. There is so much wrong with this book I hardly know where to start. Hearing these women share their experiences with such detail and distress is gut-wrenching. I felt such sorrow when they were expressing their conflicted feelings as they wanted to believe and defend their predator, and blamed themselves.

The Darkness Within hooked me from the start. Once you start you won't be able to stop!’ Katerina Diamond, No.1 bestselling author of The Teacher We see footage from the 90s and old photos to help demonstrate how young and impressionable these girls were at the time. There are also interviews with other church members, family and friends of the victims, and authorities. Something that I didn't expect when I started this story was the creepy side to it. I knew it was a thriller, and it primarily stayed in that genre, but there were some horror elements throughout that were very scary. In my opinion, the way these horror elements were included into the story was very clever. I won't say why I think this to prevent giving any spoilers. A few miles away, Andrew, a reverend and his wife Elizabeth, are praying for a new heart for their son Jacob who is in his last stages of heart failure.

I loved Amber and her friends, they were so relatable and fierce. Their companionship and determination to help each other truly impressed me. Woahhh I loved this book!! What a great thrilling read! It was fast- paced, dark and so atmospheric 🙌 I loved the setting of this story-- a small town with dark unpleasant characters. And talking about characters, this book explores the inner darkness and the guilt of the human souls in a very practical and bold manner whilst also demonstrating their capability to rid themselves of the same guilt. Nicely paced, with plenty of intrigue and chilling suspense, along with “feel good vibes” of the characters’ friendships as children, and the sadness of this innocence lost. The ending wraps things up satisfyingly, with a slight cliffhanger (hopefully nodding towards a sequel…!) Fast forward 20 years and Kieran’s watch is found by some local children. Amber, Tyler, Jordan and Brooke have been suffering with the darkness within in them for the past 2 decades and now must face up to it, reunite, learn some truths and try to stop the thing that’s been haunting them all for years. But what will happen when the truth is revealed? (You’ll have to read to find out!)
