About this deal

This was Tim Weaver’s first novel. I came to it after reading a positive review of his third novel “Vanished”. I’m sure his is a name that will become prominent in British crime fiction.

This is the first book in the series introducing ex-journalist David Raker, who finds missing people. Having recently lost his wife to cancer, Raker has pursued the project his wife started him on and finds that he is good at it. But when Mary Towne employs him to find her son Alex, he doesn't realise what torments he is letting himself in for. Alex was supposed to have died in a car accident a year before but his body could only be identified through dental records - but a month ago Mary saw Alex walking through London, hence her plea to Raker to investigate. But Raker's investigations open him up to considerable danger as he gets involved with the workings of an organisation that will do anything to remain hidden....MISSING by Tim Weaver on iTunes". itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/missing/id1034408710?mt=2 . Retrieved 2 September 2015. In September 2015, Weaver wrote and presented an eight-part podcast series called Missing, looking into how and why people disappear. [14] It was selected by iTunes as one of the best podcasts of 2015. [15] In August 2016, Weaver recorded three further episodes.

Chasing the Dead introduces David Raker, a grieving widower who, using the investigative skills honed in his former profession as a reporter, now finds missing people. The book opens with a Coben-esque conundrum - David is tasked with finding the dead son of a friend, who swears she saw him very much alive, walking the streets of London a month or so earlier. So begins Dave’s journey/investigation, which goes from interesting to downright ludicrous. Weaver has become one of this country's most respected, bestselling crime writers, and he fully deserves to be . . . Catch him at once * Daily Mail * Tim Weaver writes books so meticulously researched that the reader is educated as well as entertained, enthralled and intrigued * Sunday Times bestselling author of Lying in Wait * Weaver Chasing the Dead” is the first book in the “David Raker” series written by Tim Weaver. Mary Towne hires missing persons locator David Raker to look for her son (named Alex) whose body was found a year ago. He did not want to agree to help, but due to his own loss that he suffered (his wife died of cancer) he agrees to find him. She claims to have seen him just one month before she went to Raker for help. Raker thinks it is just another case of a woman who cannot let go and get on with her life and reconcile the fact that he is gone after her son died. The more Raker looks, the more her son, Alex, looks less and less innocent. The way she thought he was the whole time she knew him. There are big and nasty secrets in his life that other men will kill to keep hidden. questo lato umano del nostro eroe che lo rende più interessante, affascinante ai nostri occhi e nel quale ci si affianca e ci si “immedesima”.

Ayo: Raker is quite a troubled person with a rather sad personal life. Were you determined not to make him “perfect” or were you just more inclined to fashion him after more “iconic” PI’s whose lives are somewhat troubled? Weaver's tenth book, No One Home, was again selected for the Richard and Judy Book Club on 20 February 2020 [12] and on 15 April 2021, Weaver released his first standalone novel, Missing Pieces. [13] Podcast [ edit ]ABOUT THIS BOOK: It starts out as a sad but hopeless case of mistaken identity. A year after the death of her son Alex, Mary Towne is convinced she's seen him alive - and wants missing persons investigator David Raker to find him. Reluctant at first, but haunted by a loss of his own, Raker eventually agrees. I thought about this quote also while reading this book, though here less figuratively but literally. Ayo: In Chasing The Dead there is a great sense of place, in this case South Africa. How important was this and what is your relationship with South Africa?
