We are not worthy of Ivy Smoak’s ability to build such intricate characters and storylines. I came into this book going, “I’ve read The Hunted series, I know what to expect.” And boy was I so wrong. James has always been an enigma. Through Empire High and the love story between Penny and James, sometimes it’s hard to know exactly what’s going through his mind. And what’s behind those beautiful eyes is haunting, sad, manic, and a bit hilarious. Of course our Empire High guys would be absolute crap-stirrers in college, with their bromances in full force.
