About this deal

The catches on it are made of nylon, so if you drop the case then the catches won’t snap off. It might seem like a minor thing but it’s a pretty significant upgrade honestly. The foam itself is larger than the case holding it. When you close the lid, it seals the miniatures in for a great deal of protection. It actually squeezes the foam to practically hug your figures in protective foam. All in all, this is a very sturdy and rugged case that will last you a damn long time. In fact, this case will far outlive any owner I should think. Foam Trays A limitation that I have yet to test is whether the foam is durable. The individual “channels” appear to have been constructed by gluing individual foam zig-zag strips into a foam “frame”. If the glue does not hold properly, or is weakened by repeated use, then the foam channels would eventually collapse.

We are sure that your citadel miniatures collection will not encounter terrible accidents crushing your beloved miniatures on the gaming table. We’ve put a lot of effort and research into making the case as comfortable as possible to transport, with ergonomically-designed handles for maximum grip. What is a miniature carry bag? This video with the guy who used to run their product design team explains why they make the things they do and why they charge so much for it her stuff. It’s a very interesting insight into their workings. It explains why some stuff they make seems completely pointless, like the mould line remover, actually make sense for their business. It's just so baffling to me that GW can be so good at the miniatures and so bad at everything else. Their best tools are the ones where they re-brand someone else's stuff at a significant markup, every time they try to innovate and make their own products it ends up being weird stuff nobody was asking for and you have to wonder if anyone who uses the product was on the design team. To keep things simple, I review using details of largest of the Citadel army transport case systems, the Crusade Case. The smaller cases are similar in function and form, e.g., same durable materials, foam design, and latching enclosure. The Citadel Battle and Skirmish cases are less expensive, but still do the same job. The Crusade case by Games WorkshopI’ve fit 25 space marines, 20 terminators (with banners and halberds), 2 fully glued together dread knights (with greatswords!!!), and a fully assembled land raider into the case. Of course, if you used models such as chainrasps or Dryads, you could probably fit around 25-30 of them comfortably into each tray. On the other hand, if you ran an army such as Sons of Behemoth; you’d struggle to fit more than a few in the box, and might have to cut through the layers to fit them in standing up.

Ting, ting, ting.” The bottom of the tray sagged due to the weight of the metal miniatures and all of the miniatures crashed together. It turns out that channel foam is no good for metal miniatures, especially if you load up the case with all metal miniatures. The Citadel Battle Figure case is the second largest case that Citadel currently offers. Designed with a tough and sturdy outer shell, it guarantees protection on the most bumpy of journeys. This post is a Citadel Skirmish Figure Case Review. I bought this case a couple of years ago when I moved from one house to another. I needed a way to transport my minis safely and chose to give this case a try. This is a great case for plastic and resin miniatures, but it was the wrong case for my immediate application. The Features…It’s also worth noting that this product has been on the market for years. I have friends that got one of these cases for their armies years ago, and they still look good as new after hundreds of uses. It just goes to show how these cases are built to last. Final Thoughts Now these cases seem pricey, but they are essentially on-par (or dare I say cheaper) than equivalent miniature carrying systems from other companies. In short, the cases are unique in that they use a channel system of soft foam that compresses (nicely) when the lid is closed. How do the Citadel Cases work? My initial concern that the compressed foam would damage or bend parts of my miniatures was unfoundedafter using this case for a few days. No damage occurred and I wasn’t even careful putting the models into the foam. See how the foam has a zig-zag pattern? That’s so when you put your miniatures in there, the foam will close around the models and secure them in place.
