About this deal

I found the both leads quite bland. I wish Yoi hadn't been so easily taken by Ichimura. That the other girls become jealous of Yoi does not bode well as it promises a classic girl-on-girl hate side-plot that we could well do without. The main male lead is boring and so far his personality revolves around his beautiful appearance and his 'ability' to see Yoi as a girl. I would say this is the kind of shojo romance I'm mostly attracted to. I don't read a lot of romance but I do like some cute and fluffy romance that gave me butterflies and this one delivered ;) It's something she seems to have resigned herself to at the beginning of the series. While she isn't overtly bothered by being called a prince, we also get the impression that she's not all that thrilled with it either, resulting in her keeping as much to herself as possible to avoid interactions with smitten girls. She's uncomfortable with their adoration, not necessarily because they're female, but because a piece of her simply doesn't like being framed as masculine. It's gotten to the point where she largely avoids most people because she's not comfortable with the way they react to her, and apart from two friends in class, Yoi is very much a loner. As such, being from the creator of Daytime Shooting Star is definitely something that In the Clear Moonlit Dusk has going for it. Yamamori's previous title to get an English-language release subverted some of the norms of its genre (high school romance, shoujo flavor) to explore its characters' emotions and motivations, and there's no reason why In the Clear Moonlit Dusk can't do the same thing. It's already a bit different from its brethren in the “misgendered characters” genre – unlike titles such as Never Give Up! or Ai Ore, Yoi doesn't so much look masculine as she's got a more androgynous appearance, and people just make their assumptions from there based on superficial factors like her short hair or if she's wearing pants. Yoi's quiet personality and helpfulness end up being misconstrued as “princely” qualities based on these details. Contrary to most recent popular belief, I don’t just read Yaoi manga. While recently it has been mostly all I read, as it is a completely new world for me, I still dive deep into almost every single genre of manga. However, if there is one genre that holds a dear spot in my heart, it is shoujo. As a girl who grew up on Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura, shoujo was, is , and will always be that girl. I may primary be reading a josie or a yaoi title, I still make time for a cute shoujo every now and then.

I am all for "destiny" and then twisting that trope on it's head by seeing if it really IS destiny. I also loved how just because Ichimura's friends are saying one thing, that Ichimura himself is thinking over his intentions towards Yoi. Both of our characters are working through things they are feeling and LOVEEE how they are not afraid to apologize for how they spoke to the other or what they even thought about them. Please be advised I received an advanced reviewer copy of In the Clear Moonlit Dusk volume 1 from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. While I don't feel it's uncommon for shojo manga to have young women characters who struggle with how they look and/or feel insecure, Yoi honestly hits a whole other level in the world of shojo manga! In no way do I meant that as disrespectful to our "Prince" because I just found her story to be one of the most realistic views on self-image that it made me feel seen as a reader.

It’s not that Yoi violently rejects her prince status, and it wouldn’t be accurate to refer to it as just a persona, as something separate from a “truer” more internal, feminine self. Rather, Yoi just has some misgivings and complicated feelings about gender that aren’t fully formed. In other words, she’s a relatable young character navigating the interplay between the self as outwardly known and the self as inwardly felt. The great range in her facial expressions throughout further strengthens this as well.

In the Clear Moonlit Dusk immediately tugged at my heartstrings because I truly felt for Yoi. Never having seen herself as “beautiful,” she really struggles with this newfound attention, especially from someone she is also attracted to. For so long her androgynous features have worked against only for now someone to be completely enamored by them is a huge change for her. Yoi clearly has a lot of confidence to gain and it is clear that Kohaku is going to play a big role in opening her eyes. In the Clear Moonlit Dusk is a high school shoujo romance about a girl who is known as a prince in her school because of the way she talks and looks and a rich flirty guy who is THE OTHER PRINCE in her high school. Both known as princes, it was just a matter of time before they met. And oh my god I get this huge smile whenever I remember their meeting... and ALSO EVERY SINGLE SCENE WHERE THEY ARE TOGETHER. Me encantaría que alguna editorial de manga española le diera una oportunidad a esta serie, aunque todavía va por el tomo 2 en Japón. In all it's a cute story with cute characters, that is well illustrated. I'd love to read the next one. DOG」ananマンガ大賞受賞、犬に変身する年下男子とのラブ". Comic Natalie (in Japanese). Natasha, Inc. December 24, 2021. I think because Yoi's struggle reaches out to the reader, it really stirred my heart to cheer for her. She has such a beautiful and caring heart and want her to see (and understand) that she deserves to be treated like a princess. That it's okay to depend on others, it's okay to be something that is "less" with her "manly image." a b "In the Clear Moonlit Dusk, Volume 1". Kodansha USA. Archived from the original on February 14, 2022 . Retrieved April 8, 2022.I love Yoi’s character, she’s a really great prince-type who just wants to have somebody think of her as an actual woman (I do feel she could probably grow her hair out and the series would end, but shhh…). Despite having her very wounded side, she’s no less of a badass when she needs to be too. The art style is simplistic and perfectly captured the scenes. I love the clean panels and layouts making me as a reader appreciate the details and I just love reading them. Nov 25 i☆Ris the Movie - Full Energy!! - Anime Film Teaser Visual Revealed at i☆Ris Live Stage in Anime NYC & i☆Ris First Performance in New York Successfully Completed Now, I liked the fact how straight forward Ichimura was. It blended well with soft and hesitant personality of Yoi. It's like Yoi's dream coming true in the most unrealistic way possible and all of us get to witness her coming in terms with being treated the way she desired to for so long that she cannot believe what was so farther away is within the grasp of her fingertips now. It is an instant attraction in a way but still has a subtle tone to it. I throughly enjoyed reading it, and there was a moon metaphor that was illustrated even and it was so beautiful. The illustration is pretty descriptive and does justice while focusing on the reactions.
