About this deal

The general rule of plant lighting for bioactive vivariums is that the larger the terrarium, the longer, stronger light you will need. A taller terrarium, such as a 36” tall terrarium will usually require a stronger light than say, one that is only 12” tall. LED plant lights tend to be stronger than fluorescent plant lights, even the T5 HO ones. While they are more expensive than fluorescent bulbs, LEDs use significantly less electricity and last up to five times longer so more than pay for themselves in the longer term. Each unit arrives with a power cable with integrated switch, fitting kit to allow you to fit this bar inside of a vivarium and a link cable. My name is Mariah Healey, professional reptile husbandry researcher and consultant. I have kept a variety of exotic pets for the majority of my life, but I have worked with reptiles specifically for over 10 years. I am also currently working on my master’s degree in natural history-based exotic animal husbandry from West Liberty University! Because of the pigments that plants contain, it’s best to use a plant light which produces plenty of the wavelengths that they specialize in absorbing. This is why LED lights with red and blue diodes are so popular, as most of these wavelengths are in the red and blue ranges.

Control multiple lamps and use linking! Link cables are available as an optional extra for LumenIZE product, but just as with ProT5 and Led Bar, the LumenIZE® enabled update allows for linking between ProT5 and LED Bar and the App can support up to 50 different lamps per device, each with its own programme. T5 HO fluorescent plant lights — Less energy efficient, but much brighter. Fixtures tend to run warm. The Arcadia Reptile Jungle Dawn-LED Bar is sleek, bold, powerful, able to deliver the energy needed to allow plants to grow, and to cause active basking in Arid species by increasing visible light levels in terraria and vivarium. This clever system uses the very latest Full-Spectrum High Output LED diodes to project up to a massive 141 lumens per watt.Place one on top of a mesh or fit it inside of an enclosure, wherever you decide to use yours, Jungle Dawn-LED Bar will provide high levels of quality, energy rich light. If a lamp produces light within a spectrum that is close to that of natural sunlight and has a high lumen output, it will have a high level of PAR. The higher the PAR, the more energy there is to cause photosynthesis. In turn this will benefit your plant-life, therefore replicating a natural sunlight environment. You can control the lighting to further the realism enabling Dawn until Dusk cycles. Recommended operating of the LumenIZE Jungle Dawn LED Bar

T8 fluorescent plant lights — More energy efficient, but not as bright. Stay fairly cool to the touch. Our full-spectrum LED system has an overall colour of 6200 Kelvin, well within the accepted range for ‘natural sunlight’ and will work flawlessly with Arcadia Reptile UV lamps to create a crisp natural provision of light for you and your animals. Visible light has more benefits for pet reptiles than most people realize, but that’s not what we’re talking about today. Today we’re actually going to talk about plants! Plants are very important to bioactive vivariums, as we covered last month in Live Plants vs Fake Plants — Which is Better for Your Reptile? Carbon dioxide (CO2), water (H2O), and light are all essential to photosynthesis, which is the process that plants use to convert light energy into food that the plant can use, namely glucose. In photosynthesis, photons (light particles) trigger light-dependent reactions in the chloroplasts of plant cells. These chloroplasts contain a few different pigments 1 which act to capture light energy for use in the light-dependent reactions of photosynthesis. These pigments are:

Densely-planted or arboreal (tall) vivariums will need a plant light that spans the full length of the enclosure, and possibly more than one. More sparsely-planted vivariums may be able to get away with a shorter light fixture placed over the planted area. However, diurnal reptiles (ex: bearded dragons) in particular seem to benefit from the extra “daylight” that a plant light provides, so you may want to consider using a full-length plant light anyway. Types of Plant Lights You also need to pay attention to lumens rating of the lamp in question. Lumens is a measure of the light visible by humans. The larger the lumen rating, the brighter the bulb. It is very important to not overdo it with the lumen output, as too much light can be as harmful as too little. Length Generally speaking, an LED grow light is going to be your best option. The Best Plant Lights for Bioactive Vivariums Using a specifically designed exclusive mix of the latest High Output LEDs we have created an LED BAR that projects a vast quantity of light with a very high PAR value over a wide area as a flood. We do not lens our LEDs to make them very bright over a small area, this only creates growth limiting ‘dark-zones’ which are no good at all for creating vibrant planted enclosures or naturally illuminated vivarium’s. Using a specifically designed mix of Full-spectrum, High Output LEDs Arcadia have created an LED bar that can project a vast quantity of light with a very high PAR value.JungleDawn-LED Bar projects a Full-Spectrum of light that mimics visible natural sunlight (6200kelvin), along the Photosynthetic Active Response Curve but without using PAR limiting separate red and blue diodes. As such the Jungle Dawn-Pro fitting has a high PAR, a high percentage of PUR, a high CRI and no unnatural purple hue.Different plants need different amounts of light. For example, some plants prefer shade, while others are categorized as “full sun” and need as much light as possible. Shade plants need a minimum of PAR 100, and full-sun plants need a minimum of PAR 700. It is also ideal for growing Orchids or other exotic flowers. The concentrated light source ensures spectacular growth and vibrancy. A vital part of photosynthesis, the intense light from the Jungle Dawn encourages amazing results.

A new IP65 screw in power cable and link cable has been designed to offer even more protection from water and humidity ingress. IP65 denotes the tested level of water resistance that will protect the lamp and fitting from usual humidity, condensation, and dust. Arcadia Reptile T5 and JungleDawn-LED Bar LumenIZE™ products have been tested to this standard and are classified as being ‘water resistant’, so the usual use of sprayers, humidifiers and rain systems is possible. Be careful not to place rain or fogging devices so that they emit over or directly onto the fittings. All life has developed to use the sun’s energy within the whole terrestrial spectrum. It is the balance of this spectrum and its intensity that has become the base requirement of all species. The Jungle Dawn LED can be used to enhance the colours of reptiles that do not require UV, and also alongside other Arcadia UV lighting for those that do. You can really show off the natural beauty of your terrarium or other enclosure to the maximum with this exciting light source. An innovative and versatile product from leading manufacturer Arcadia, the Jungle Dawn LED lighting system is ideal for plant growth and vibrancy. Designed to replicate sunlight as it runs at 6.5 -7 kelvin, the wavelengths of this LED system are. The 51w system uses the very latest full spectrum high output LED diodes to project up to 141 lumens per watt. This clever system uses the very latest Full-Spectrum High Output LED diodes to project up to a massive 141 lumens per watt. Furthermore, because you are using this light in a bioactive vivarium designed to house a reptile, you need to be aware of their light needs, too. Blue and red light will wash the enclosure in a weird purple hue, and blue light specifically is notoriously harmful to animal eyesight 2.
