About this deal

Once your flex has been cut to the right size, you'll need to close the exposed circuit. If the cut strip already has an end connector on one side, you can close the exposed circuit with an end cap and some silicone adhesive sealant and/or glue-lined heat shrink to make it watertight. If the LED Neon Flex you have chosen doesn’t have connectors, the cable will need to be soldered directly onto the exposed end.

They don’t work the same as proper incandescent filament bulbs do, but instead, just cleverly use LED tech for a look that’s a little more retro. Each end of the filament has a metal tab—one side is the positive terminal (indicated by a small hole in the metal tab), and the other side is the negative terminal. To use them, you need to very carefully solder wires onto each end of the filament, then connect to power. The power supply in a clear bulb must be very small to fit into the base of the lamp. [8] The large number of LEDs (typically 28 per filament) simplifies the power supply compared to other LED lamps, as the voltage per blue LED is between 2.48 and 3.7volts DC. Some types may additionally use red LEDs (1.63V= to 2.03V=). Two filaments with a mix of red and blue is thus close to 110V=, and four are close to 220–240V=, compared to the mains AC voltage reduction to between 3V= and 12V= needed for other LED lamps. Four filaments are usually used, and the appearance is similar to an overrun carbon filament lamp. Typically, a mix of phosphors is used to give a higher color rendering index (as distinct from color temperature) than the early blue LEDs with yellow phosphor. [9] One of the main reasons to buy filament bulbs is to take advantage of the warm colour temperatures they provide, so it’s worth understanding that for a really warm-yellow or orangey glow you want a lower colour temperature. Therefore, you should be able to work out this answer too – whether a bulb is a filament one or not doesn’t impact how much energy it uses. a b c d e f g h i Lin, Judy (5 February 2015). "The Next Generation of LED Filament Bulbs". LEDinside . Retrieved 17 Feb 2019. It’s just the configuration of those LED chips – whether they illuminate the whole bulb casing or just the small ‘filaments’ inside the bulb.

The first thing to do is to add the resistor and capacitor to the module. The module has 4 connectors, 2 are to connect power to and the other 2 are for connecting the the wires from the LED's. Now that we’ve established that LED light bulbs don’t need filaments, does that mean that none of them have one? To make it round, I used a belt sander and used the sander wheel to make it round. If you take your time and don't add too much pressure, you should be able to make almost perfectly round.

PERFECT DESIGN: Designed with end-to-end connections, you can connect 40 strands at most to cover a large area. LED filament bulbs were developed to solve the problem of using traditional carbon filaments and modern tungsten coil technology, both of which aren’t energy-efficient. Instead, LEDs are lined up in a row inside an LED filament bulb to imitate the effect of the traditional filament while using less energy than the original version. Getting the vintage effect: it’s all in the colour temperature So, an LED filament bulb measured at 470 lumens and rated at 4.5 Watts has an efficiency of 470 divided by 4.5 = approximately 104 lumens per watt.
