About this deal

The base is remarkably long-lasting partly thanks to the aldehydic musk. That said, it is not without changes that are not necessarily positive. The original Cool Water edt (2021) is slightly aquatic, white floral, musky and woody and itself has not much in common anymore with the original Cool Water edt released in 1988 which was a pure fresh aquatic and woody scent. I love Cool Water because of the memories, I love it because of it's simple message, most of all I love it because it smells nice.

The rosemary cooks off leaving only the mint and aquatic scents from the head. The heart emerges with a flora bouquet of jasmine and carnations. Deep notes of sandalwood are present as a reminder that we’re dealing with a rich, masculine fragrance. Base Notes The oak moss freshness maintains the cool texture as we delve into the base. This is reinforced by sharp notes of cedar wood, which contrast with a warm musky presence. The musk is undeniably aldehydic with a fatty finish, which ensures that is stays more animal than amber. What Coty has done is adding vetiver to a citric peppery and creamy sandalwood scent and they have done a good job. The fragrance follows a current trend using pink pepper and even though it is not listed i personally sense a light Tonka vibe as well. This happened to me many years ago, and I still get flashes of that moment today. Oh the trauma! That someone special has been history for almost as many years, but that moment got me thinking long and deep about spending my money on expensive fragrances that have proficient doppelgangers. Well of course I never learnt my lesson, but I have been more careful and considered before handing over hard-earned dosh.

It says on the box " we have taken the original and added some vetiver" and I have to say no....you did not. If you took the original and added some vetiver it would smell different. I have been wearing Cool Water these days, this is not particularly fabulous, but I think that Calone and high amounts of Evernyl (Oakmoss) work really nicely. This is pleasant to my nose. This is primarily aroma-chemicals based and I think this actually always was, starting from 80xx. Some citrus compounds are noticeable in this as well, I believe lots of Hydroxycitronellal, Linalool and Ethyl Linalool are very much appealing in this together with some green raw materials like Cis-3-Hexenol maybe in small amounts.

I’m a big fan of anything that comes in a blue bottle, mostly because they usually have airy, water smells. But Cool Water is as close a classic as I can call a scent like this. It’s classy, it’s strong, and it always makes me take a moment to stop and enjoy it whenever my husband (and one of my older, married coworkers that happens to have it and use it on rare occasions) uses it and wow, I honestly can’t get over it at times. This is a little quieter than other blue scents and stays closer to the body. Projects in the beginning, but it gets closer afterward. It's a bit more stealth. I went to a quieter, calmer bar and I didn't want to scream or distract people from our conversation, but still be detectable. That worked perfectly for the occasion.

Cool Water’s durability doesn’t win awards but it doesn’t disappoint either. Both the sillage and projection as average for so-called “power frags” that aim to endure the wear and tear of a hardworking day. Consequently, it’s more of a casual fragrance that would struggle in the workplace or during more formal occasions. Instead, reserve it for nights out or evening social gatherings. I personally don't understand the Sauvage comparison but i agree that there are similarities in the core. Davidoff cool water perfume does have it's own DNA though. For me this smells like a Chanel de Bleu EDT (that I own) stripped of all the extra citruses, ginger, Iso E Super, and other notes. To my nose it just retains the citrus in the top, with clean full vetiver and sandalwood. I just got a bottle that smells like OG cool water and it lasts 6+ hours. Almost afraid to re-apply throughout the day.No matter if you added vetiver to CW edt from 2021 or CW edt from1988 it just would not smell like CW perfume.
