About this deal

Both of the main characters are goofy, sweet, and likable. Their palpable chemistry, handwritten notes they share, their irresistible attraction, and the awkward situations they put themselves into are absolutely swoon-worthy. The relationship development was nicely written, I enjoyed it a lot. And their letters to each other!!😫 The one sex scene was pretty lukewarm on my spice scale and didn’t do much for me. It also took so long for them to bang it out. There was minor bite play but mama wanted more.

Filled with awkward and the occasional laugh-out-loud moments, this was an entertaining and light read. There are no spicy scenes until about three-quarters of the way through the novel. There’s also not a lot if conflict until the second half of the book. There was no chemistry and the infatuation was so instantaneous that I felt nothing for them as a couple. Despite the insta-love, their relationship “development” took so long and the pacing was really slow. The third act was external and didn’t force them to grow at all. It was really just DRY and boring and induced a massive reading slump. Eighteen-year-old Mallory Greenleaf is no longer interested in chess, not since her hypercompetitive dad left—the game calls up painful memories. But she grudgingly agrees to play in a charity tournament as a favor to best friend Easton Peña. After she unexpectedly beats current world champion Nolan Sawyer, she’s offered a fellowship that will prepare her to play professionally. Even though Mallory doesn’t want to play anymore, she needs the money that winning would provide; she’s delayed college to support her family, since her mother is chronically ill with rheumatoid arthritis and is unable to work regularly. The more time she spends with Nolan, the more Mallory comes to like and respect him—and the more time she spends playing chess, the more she remembers how much she loved it. But when she learns that Nolan has been keeping a big secret from her, she isn’t sure if she’ll be able to move past it to build a relationship with him. Filled with the author’s signature humor, well-developed characters, and realistic conflicts, plus the fully realized setting of competitive chess, this captivating romance will delight teen readers as well as Hazelwood’s adult fans. Mallory and Nolan are both cued white; there is some racial diversity among the supporting cast. Mallory and Easton are queer. Ok so this was so good! The perfect paranormal rom com. Read it during spooky season. Read it anytime. Read it right now. Thanks so much to NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. Jenna Levine delivers a fresh, charming romp full of heart and some of the best kissing scenes I’ve ever read. For someone whose love for both vampires and Chicago runs deep, it was an absolute delight of a novel to sink my teeth into.”— Isabel Cañas, national bestselling author of The Hacienda Maybe when a person turns into a vampire, they acquire an encyclopedic and instantly updated understanding of how best to dress for purposes of blending into modern society and attracting victims." He gestured to himself, giving me a broad, dazzling smile. His eyes twinkled with amusement. "What you see before you is the result of millennia of vampire genetic evolution, Cassie. Nothing more."

My Roommate Is a Vampire is a breezy, clever romp that will leave you laughing so loud you could wake the undead.Jenna Levine is a permanent auto-buy for me.” —Elizabeth Davis, author of I Love You, I Hate You and The Player Next Door I raised a skeptical eyebrow at him and folded my arms across my chest. "Spare me," I said, though I was on the verge of laughing. "There is no such thing as vampire osmosis or I wouldn't be here. And we didn't buy you those clothes at the mall." Cassie Greenberg needs a new place to live, and fast. When she finds an affordable apartment in a beautiful neighbourhood, she knows there must be a catch. My Roommate Is a Vampire by Jenna Levine is a debut paranormal romantic comedy. Cassie Greenberg has a Master of Fine Arts degree in Applied Arts and Design and loves being an artist. Unfortunately, she can’t earn a living that way so she works part-time at a coffee shop and part-time in the children’s section of her local library in Chicago, Illinois. This book was such a joy. It was light, humorous, and heartwarming. What a fabulous debut book. I look forward to reading more of what Jenna Levine writes in the future.i love putting books i wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole into absolute dnfs, actually. go rot. “but this is a debut author” of a bad book. i love being a hater. etc etc etc. Living with someone you think is hot never ends well. You either end up sleeping with them—which is a huge mistake, nine times out of ten—or else you drive yourself nuts because you want to sleep with them.” It also did not feel like a vampire romance?? The vampire stuff felt like an afterthought to try to make the plot seem unique. Vampires don’t automatically add razzle dazzle! You need to also provide the razzle and the dazzle! There wasn’t any lore and you’re kinda just like boom vampires exist which works sometimes…but it didn’t here. I could’ve maybe ignored it for super interesting character development and plot…but there wasn’t any. My Roommate is a Vampire by Jenna Levine is like your favorite red wine—familiar, tasty, and will definitely have you kissing hot strange vampires by the end of the night. Bloody delightful!”— Ashley Poston, New York Times bestselling author of The Dead Romantics Cassie is moving into a new apartment and she doesn’t understand what’s up with her gorgeous yet weird new neighbour until she finds out he is a vampire.
